The Beach

Maia and Justin walk the shoreline, the beach seems to be deserted today and that's very good since he didn't want any interruptions. She's huddled close to him and the crashing of the waves make it even hard for him to hear what she's saying in that hushed voice of hers.

Maia holds onto Justin's arm tightly. "I said 'are you going to be ok" She said leaning close to his ear.

"I have no bloody idea." he muttered into hers, his face falling into a small frown.

Maia just hugged Justin's arm closer to her, her arm around his back. "What can I do Justin? Tell me, what I can do."

He signed, "Kill Lex Luthor?" he joked then turned serious, "Bring her back to me?" he almost said like a child.

At those words all the stress of the last few days made Maia feel like she was going to cry. "I wish I could Justin, I wish I could." Maia's voice broke as she said that.

"I guess that means that I've been misled then." he frowns, "Africa was the place for me. Amoung the civil wars, the deaths of children and the corruption."

Maia frowned "Have I mislead you Justin?"

He shook his head lightly, "No, you've brought be comfort. I thank you for that." he kissed the top of her hand.

Maia closes her eyes against the kiss, her heart as always skips a beat with Justin. "Your my strength Justin, ever since we met. You remember? that first day in your garden when you made tea for me?" Maia thought back on that day, the first day she had seen his enormous gardens and just been in awe of them.

A small smile came to him, "Yes, I do remember. You were such a fawn then, the garden was your home."

Maia smiled and looked up at him "It still is Justin, I just, I lost my way a little bit but its still my home." She smiled again her eyes still on his.

"Well, I guess every girl looses her way home." he gave her a slight smile mixed with a frown. Why did everything remind him of her? Why did she drop his class? It was all too much.

Maia looked very sad now at him "Its ok Justin. I'm here" Her eyes explored his willing him to just scream or something to let it all out anything but keeping it in.

When Tessa died, he cried for hours on end, thinking of her death made his heart ache but with Lana it was different, she made him feel young and important. "Oh, yes, I know." he mutters against the crashing waves, "I just"-- a perplexed and strained look comes over his face --"I don't understand why. I'm a business man and I have to know the why's and wherefor's. Lana was amazing but I guess it's the fact that I'm a widowed 40 year old, nobody sees that I can love as well?" he vents to her.

"Oh my darling" Maia hugs him close "Of course you can love someone. Justin it wasn't her fault, what happened. Its wasn't yours either."

"I will never have love. Not since Tessa died. I can try as hard as possible but this is what I get -- death threats and voicemails telling me she's dropped my class." he scowls, "I hate to be avoided, it gives me a sick sense. When Tessa was alive, she'd avoid the truth with me all the bloody time. But, she loved me and I her. I guess I'm bound to love a dead woman for life."

Maia jerked Justin around to face her now "STOP IT!" she shouted "STOP IT JUSTIN!" Maia's face was a mixture of sadness and anger "Your only bound to what you let yourself be bound to."

He's not only startled but he went mute for a moment, his mouth went open to say something but he couldn't formulate words just yet. After a long while his mind had cleared, "It's not myself, you see? It's fate, it's a horrible thing to deal with." he retorts hushingly.

Maia's turn to be silent.. Fate? there is no such thing as Fate only indecision

Maia sighed for a moment "I don't believe in fate Justin."

"Pity that." he frowns and pulls her closer to him, he feels wrong about saying such things to her and making her feel uncomfortable.

Maia feels his chest rising and falling against her, she is almost weak from being this close to him. She can't make herself pull away.

Holding her for a while makes him feel quite warm along with the cold air coming from the wind whisping by them, "Thankyou Maia. For being such a love in my life." he whispers in her ear.

Maia holds Justin closer, her arms tighten around him and she nods. She wants to stay in his arms, safe and warm against the cold wind. She stands up taller to whisper to him "I'll always be in your life Justin." She kisses his cheek and then puts her head against his chest.

Justin feels a sense of inner comfort that he hasn't felt in days, that still doesn't mean that he's done grieving. He nuzzles his face in the crook of her neck.
