Veronica knocks on Logan’s door. She was nervous walking through town on her own and kept one hand on her cell phone and the other wrapped around her mace the whole way. She didn’t know if mace would actually do any good against a vampire or a demon, but it gave her a false sense of security.

She hopes that Logan will believe the recording when he listens to it.

"Veronica!" Logan said with a grin as he opened the door. "Come on in."

Veronica sighs and enters.

"All right, where can we listen to this and *not* be eavesdropped on by your roommates?"

"My room," Logan said, dropping the grin. "Come on." He lead her back to his room and pointed to the laptop on his desk.

Veronica takes the CD out of her bag and slides into the drive on his laptop. She sits on the chair at the desk and watches for his reaction.

Logan leaned against the wall and crossed his arms. As he listened to the recording, his arms fell to his sides and the color faded from his face.

"He did it," he said in a low voice, looking at Veronica.

Veronica nods, too choked up to speak. This is the third time she's heard the recording and it hasn't gotten any easier.

Logan sank down and put his head in his hands. "Fuck," he muttered.

"I guess you don't think Marty faked that."

Logan shook his head. "I need a copy of this," he said.

"Why?"

He looked up at her. "Faith needs to hear this, too."

"Logan, you're not going to do anything stupid, are you?"

Logan throws back his head and laughs at that.

"Logan, I'm serious. It's bad enough I'm a target."

The reminder sobered him up. He shook his head. "Nothing stupid," he promised. "But... have you thought of maybe taking a trip back to Neptune for a few days?"

Veronica is surprised by Logan's... is that concern in his voice?

"I wasn't really thinking about it, but I may not have a choice," she tells him. "I think Bristow is calling my dad."

Logan smiled at that. "Good. Stick with your dad and Backup." He paused. "And stay away from Bel and Beka."

Veronica looks up at him.

"I wasn't planning on hosting another JA event any time soon," she says. "But why would you say that?"

Logan stood up and walked over to the computer. "Bel's killed people," he said quietly, as he copied the audio file to his computer's hard drive.

Veronica closes her eyes, thinking of the 'flame' rose that was anonymously delivered to her the previous day.

"And Beka," Logan added as he transferred the audio to his iPod, "I think she knows that Angelus did it. And doesn't care."

Veronica rolls her eyes.

"That sounds like Beka." After looking at the clock she adds, "It's almost curfew, I should probably head back to the dorms."

"I'll drive you," Logan said, tucking the iPod into his jacket.

"You don't have to do that."

"I'm headed there anyway," Logan said. "But if you want to be stubborn and walk home alone, in the dark, then I want you to know I will send a very nice bouquet to your funeral."

The mention of flowers sends a chill down Veronica's spine.

"Fine, if you're headed there anyway, I'll take a ride," she says.

"Smart girl," Logan grinned, and lead her out to the garage.
