On the Rocks: Wednesday Morning

Lana made her way down to the shore and climbed up onto one of the larger rocks to watch the waves and the light glinting off the water. She'd been kind of avoiding the rocks for a while after the whole fiasco with Justin and Lex.

But she'd decided it was ridiculous to avoid doing something she loved, something that made her feel happy and peaceful inside, so here she was. She was smart, though. She'd dressed warmly and brought a blanket and a thermos full of hot chocolate and the gloves with the little nubblies on them so she could read her book *and* keep her hands warm at the same time.

No classes till Monday. She sighed happily. She felt a little bad about not going back to Smallville for Thanksgiving, but since doing so would mean dealing with Lex, she thought she'd be better off here.

She sat back and enjoyed the clean air and the cool sunlight for a while, then took out her book and started reading.

Maia carried her shoes in one hand and a hermit crab in the other as she walked out onto the rocks. She spied Lana sitting and crept up quietly behind her "Hey Lana" She spoke softly she didn't want to scare Lana her by speaking loud.

Lana turned her head abruptly and saw Maia. "Hey, how are you doing? I figured I was the only one crazy enough to be out here today."

Maia sat next to her, she stuck the hermit crab in her sneaker for a moment while she got situated. "Are you kidding, winter days, storms coming to blow the waves up. Wouldn't miss it for anything." Maia pulled the crab back out and stroked one of its claws carefully. "I saw Shep last night."

"Yeah, I haven't been out here in a while. It was before the whole fiasco and Justin had come out here looking for me. I just didn't want to run into him and have to deal with him and any Lex fallout and... But I love it here, so... Couldn't stay away for long. I have some hot chocolate if you want some." Lana offers a cupfull to Maia.

She smiles when Maia mentions seeing Shep. "How was he? When I stopped by he was pretty wiped so I just dropped off some food for him and left. I was a little flustered anyway, so..."

Maia smiled and took the cup gratefully. She laid the hermit crab on a lower rock. "I found him on the beach." She looked at the crab "You can go home now Simon." She smiled and nodded at Lana "Yeah, I didn't stay long either, just brought him some cookies and made sure he didn't need anything." Maia eyebrow raised "Why were you flustered?" She grinned. She knew the situation with Justin and didn't want to bring anything up that might make this beautiful day on the rocks become full of tension.

Lana shook her head, smiling a little despite herself. "I had dinner with Han after Biology. We both kind of needed to talk about what had happened with Shep on Saturday. It was good to talk with him. But I think... at the end... I think he might have been flirting with me."

Maia looked curiously "well... he's with Bagaos isn't he? I mean I know he and Chiana, well... but wow, cool. What are you going to do about it?"

"Do about it? I'm not going to do anything about it." Lana shook her head. "It was probably all in my imagination anyway. And as you said, he's with Bagoas, so... It was... well. it was just... really nice. He's very charming. And really good looking, too." Lana flushes a little.

"But no, it would all be too complicated, so... I'll just enjoy my little imagination fantasy and let it all be for now." She smiled at Maia.

Maia nodded and grinned "Thats sounds like a wonderful idea and Oh my God yes he is good looking" Maia laughed "One of the other reasons I was cheering him on" Maia giggled at the memory of Han pretending to tip a hat at her. "Oh what are you doing for Thanksgiving?"

Lana shrugged. "Not going home to Smallville. I don't think I'm ready to deal with Lex face-to-face yet and there'd be no way to avoid it if I went home. I might go to the hotel for the dinner Deb's cooking or I might just hang out in the dorms. We'll see how I feel tomorrow."

"Oh, well I'm going to Allison's for dinner. Your welcome to come to that if you'd like. Somehow I don't think I'd really be that welcome with anything having to do with Deb." She tilted her head and smiled "So better to just avoid that until... well until forever actually but still. Besides its more family feeling to go to Allison's and not a big catered affair at the hotel. She's opened it up to everyone who wants to come. So I mean if you want to stop by or whatever after the hotel or instead of the hotel or dorms your more then welcome to."

Lana smiled, "Oh thanks, that's so nice of you - and Allison to offer. I'll see how the day goes. Maybe I'll stop by. I kind of feel a little the opposite. It might be hard being at a small gathering at the house of someone I don't know. A big group, I'll probably know some of the people and if not I can have some good food and disappear without offending anyone. But who knows? This is Fandom High. Anything could happen between now and then!"

Maia laughed "Yeah I see what you mean, oh Paige will be there as well and Fred" Maia frowned slightly "I was going to go home but Diana has to work and so does my stepdad so.." Maia shrugged and then smiled "But its ok, you guys are like my family away from home so I am just glad I won't be alone."

Maia bit her lip again and then smiled "What do you want for Thankgiving?"

"What do I want for *Thanksgiving*?" Lana looks at her with some confusion. "Isn't that something you're supposed to ask for Christmas or Birthdays or something? I don't know that I want anything for Thanksgiving in particular. Peace of mind, a great boyfriend, A's on my report card...?"

"Uh, I'm going to go with the great boyfriend, then," Lana says laughing. "Honestly, I can't think of a thing. And it's really not necessary."

Maia nodded trying to think of something for Lana. "Yeah, great boyfriend, we can throw in a girlfriend for me while we're at it." Maia laughed.

Maia giggled "So who shall you have as a great boyfriend?" Maia is happy to have such a wonderful friend as Lana and for getting things off her chest and knowing she can trust her no matter what. "Ok ok I will pick a perfect boyfriend for you and you pick a girlfriend for me." Maia looks thoughtful for a few moments "The perfect boyfriend for Lana is..." Maia closes her eyes, she touched Lana's hand gently and frowned concentrating... she opened them and smiled "Ok, your perfect boyfriend is Clark Kent" Maia beamed.

Lana blinks. "Clark Kent? *My* Clark Kent? Well, not mine in that way, just... He's a friend, Maia. That's all. And he won't ever be more than a friend until a lot of things change." She smiles to herself. "But if they did, yeah, he could be a pretty good choice, I suppose. But... not going to happen. I could never count on him."

Maia laughed slightly "Well things will happen" Her smile is sly and then she looks out at the ocean. "So tell me Lana who is the perfect girlfriend for me?"

Lana shakes her head. "I honestly don't know, Maia. I thought you and Chiana were together. but... I'm just no good at this sort of thing. Who do you like?"

Maia blushed slightly "Oh well... well we're just kinda there you know. We're not together like girlfriends, we're friends who just well who care about each other in a special way you know." Maia laughed "And I feel like a parent talking about the birds and bees with a kid." Maia laughed harder "We enjoy each other in every way possible." She nodded satisfied with that explanation. Maia looked thoughtful "Well I like Chiana but like I said we're just friends... I don't know really. I think I like just having what I have with Chi right now. not really having a 'girlfriend'."
