New Sheriff in town

Standing on the outskirts, Lucas Buck put his hands on his hips and listened. Not just to the sounds of the town as it slowly roused to life with the beginning of the day, but really listened. Beneath the obvious pulse of the town, there was a heart beat, slow…steady and just perceptible. He smiled.

He had several orders of business to attend to, the least of which was finding a place to stay. Then to the mayor’s office to settle into his new role as the sheriff. Finally, he would need to stop by the station and get acquainted with the fine officers that have tried desperately to maintain the peace under…dubious…leadership.

There was a hotel in town if he remembered reading the Chamber of Commerce brochure right and struck off in a direction, trusting that he would eventually find his way there. Fandom Town wasn’t very big at all. Normally, hiding a hotel of the size of the Aficionado Arms should be rather difficult. His intelligence on Fandom Town would tell a different story….

[Points to town. Cowers in fear.]

[Nownow, I'm just here to uphold the law and keep the peace for all the fine citizens of Fandom Town.]

[Sitting behind the registration desk, he's talking to the new consierge, JR Ewing, about his missing baby sister. Actually, he's not so much talking as listeing to the man ramble on. He muses for a while on why no one has shot this man. Then he slips his player into the usb and begins to download music. The hair on the back of his neck rises, and he looks to the doors.]

Lucas strode through the doors and looked around the lobby. A very nice place for such a small island. The owner must do a booming tourist trade. He blinked his eyes closed for a moment and listened. There it was again, a buzz he felt in the sharp corners of his mind that flitted around like angry bees while he walked through the town.

He shouldered his bag higher and went to the registration desk, leaning on it and smiling amicably at the man on the other side. "Morning. I need a room and I'm hoping you can give me weekly rates."

[He looks up at the voice, the reason his wings itch to unfurl and his hands clench into claws. Behins his glasses he can feel his pupils constricting into tight slits. Every bit of his being wants to jump the counter and fight with this...he notices the badge. Well, bugger. He smiles with his lips closed, trying not to give away more than he's sure he already has.]

Rates depend on rooms, pet. How much are you looking to spend?

If Lucas noticed anything, he didn't let on, still casual and friendly when he talked with Crowley. "Well, it'll be the town that's picking up the tab so I guess I shouldn't be too extravagant. Just a bed and a TV and a shower since I don't anticipate needing to be there during the day."

Fandom will be footing the bill? Well then, that's different...I have just the room for you. [He taps ferociously at the keyboard with one finger...he may be striking the same key over and over, but soon the printer spits out paperwork.]

I'll need identification, and a major credit card...although it won't be billed.

[He slides the paperwork across the counter, then hands him a pen...a slender black old-fashioned one, with a silver nib.]

"I'll have the mayor give you a call for verification and billing information."

Lucas pulled his driver's license and a credit card from his wallet and slid them across the desk. When he took the pen, he inspected it closely and whistled low before starting to write. "Nice. You aren't afraid someone will walk off with it?"

Not really, no. [The tips of his fingers begin to sting a bit as the pen draws blood from his hand to write. Crowley stands watching, waiting for...something.]

Before one mark met the page, there was an almost imperceptable frown before Lucas held the pen up, then looked over it at Crowley. "And you know? I would sure hate to be the one to have to replace this," and he set it between them. Reaching into his jacket, he pulled out another pen and went back to writing.

That's kind of you...[He looks at the writing]...Mr. Buck. It's quite a treasure to me.

[He picks the pen up and slips it into his inside breast pocket.] Welcome to Fandom, I trust you'll be doing the work no one else has managed quite to date?

"Thank you. I expect I will," Lucas said, smiling. He finished with the paperwork and handed it across to Crowley. Picking up his license and card, he waiting for the key to his room.

[Sliding the keycard across the counter, he snatches the paperwork with the other hand.] Room 335, would you like any help with your baggage?

"No, I think I got it." Shouldering his bag again, Lucas took the keycard and started for the bank of elevators. He stopped, as if suddenly thinking of something and turned to address Crowley. "If you would, clear some time from your schedule in the next couple of days. Let's meet. Have a drink. Talk."

His countenance darkened and he looked pointedly at his fingertips, brushing them lightly with his thumb. "Establish some ground rules."

Meeting the other's gaze, he raised his eyebrow to wait for the response.

I generally don't mix with guests.

[He leans forward, his wings straining to be let free and his mouth watering at the thought of tearing the new sheriff's flesh from his bones. He swallows hard, controlling himself with a discipline that only comes from years and years of practice.]

But perhaps it would be a wise move...on both our parts.

"Good," Lucas inclined his head with wink. "I'll catch up with you later." He smiled and kept walking to the elevators. He still had a lot to do in the next couple of days to get settled in.

Grissom hopes no one locates any photos of him and Buck in several compromising positions.

At least the new Sheriff isn't Lumbergh. *really shudders*

Your meta-fu is strong. But my complete surprise/shameless gaping/needing to buy my supervisors a new keyboard is stronger.

From a movie called Kiss the Sky, late 90s I think? Gary Cole is another stage actor from the Chicago scene. It features the 2 of them as yuppie types who run away to the South Pacific to find enlightenment and have a threesome, basically.

I'm not sure what I find more hilarious -- the story or the icon. *snerk*
