The Mayor is In - Morning hours

Red trotted to his office at the town hall. He had some appointments to meet and papers to sign, always papers to sign and Gladys met him at the door with an itenirary for his morning, every minute planned out. "How efficient of you, Gladys," he remarked as he made his way to the office.

"Just trying to make your day move smoothly as possible, Mr. Mayor," she said pleasantly.

At his desk, he picked up his pen and started his day.

At some point, probably before he went to hide with good ole Sherlock Holmes, Wilson trotted up the stairs of the town hall. It was a completely off the cuff thing to do and he had no idea if the Mayor was in, or even seeing people but...nothing beat a try but a failure.

Walking up to the woman he imagined to be Red's admin, the young doctor smiled warmly.

"Excuse me? Do you know if the mayor might have a minute free in his schedule?"

Wilson had been more than ready to make a proper appointment and take himself off if need be but he did look up with a bright smile when Red appeared.

"Hello, Mayor." He used Red's title since this was the Mayor's place of business after all.

With another quick almost apologetic smile to Gladys, fearing he'd probably just bolloxed up some sort of schedule, Wilson walked around the desk towards Red's office.

"I'm sorry I didn't call, I sort of...came down into town on a bit of a whim and realized we never did get a chance to go eat pie."

Wilson didn't even bat an eyelash -a fact that might cause him to pause a step down the road- when he reached forward to take the paper out of Red's mouth.

"I am certainly still interested, Mayor." Wilson said with a quick smile as he sat back to review the proposal with a thoughtful air, one hand rubbing at the back of his neck.

He'd spent enough time on the board at PP-TH to be fairly good at reading through a budget, spotting the potential pitfalls and juggling the financial resources to the most effective areas and he was nodding at what he read.

"Will you be able to set up emergency ambulance services with one of the mainland hospitals? I'd suggest MCV, if you haven't already approached another hospital."

Wilson took the folder with a soft, "Thank you." To Gladys. Had to be impressed that the woman could translate Red with a pen in his mouth.

Flipping through the different bids, the oncologist chewed on his lower lip as he quietly compared the budget to the bids and back again.

Leaning forward, he looked to Red for permission before plucking a pen off the desk, he did at least try to make his handwriting legible as he made marks on both before sliding them across the desk for Red to review.

Wilson had made just a couple of changes, effectively redirecting the monies set aside for his salary towards balancing out the cost of going with a ambulance service that reported to MCV as well as putting more support towards the possibility of an assistant for the in town clinic.

Sitting forward, Wilson rested his hands between his knees and regarded Red seriously.

"MCV is one of the best teaching hospitals in the area. I know some of the staff and have utmost confidence in their ability not only to treat emergencies but also to treat...uh...unique emergencies."

[ooc: Did a wing on the salary thing, feel free to ask me to correct if I stepped too far! :D]

"I don't need it and it'll make my job easier to redirect to those other resources." Wilson said with an easy smile.

Even with the two ex-wives to support the money he made in writing the odd journal article alone kept him comfortable.

Taking the address, Wilson smiled and slipped it into his pocket.

"Should I see Gladys about keys to the building? I'll try to keep renovations to a reasonable cost, if it used to be a doctor's office hopefully there should only be upgrades required."

[ooc: Bah! You rule. Just give me an idea of what's around the office?]

[identity profile] dr-jwilsonmd.livejournal.com 2005-11-29 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Wilson's eyebrows lifted and he nodded with a growing smile.

"I'll get the keys and the list and go down to check it out today. I'll get back to you with a PO list and let you know how the budget is being used for town fiscal purposes."

Sitting forward he grinned at Red. "Thank you, Mayor."

[ooc: Sweet! But I was kinda thinking, give me a physical location about where the office is in town? What other shops it's near?]

Later that morning

Lucas found the municipal building easily enough. All government buildings had that utilitarian look to them. Even in a town as historic as Fandom Town.

He had an appointment and gave the administrative assistant a friendly smile when he introduced himself. The rather severe woman looked like she sprang something in her face when she smiled back. She was quite chatty after that and they made small talk while waiting.

A portly gentleman in an ill fitting suit came out of the mayor’s office. With a tip of his hat, he waddled out.

“The Mayor will see you now,” Gladys said, now a little more friendly and warm to the new sheriff.

“Thank you, Miss Pipp, for the fine conversation and company,” he said smoothly before going into the mayor’s office. He could have sworn he heard her sigh.

“Mayor,” Lucas said as he approached the … mayor’s … desk. “I’m Lucas Buck, your new sheriff.” His intelligence had said the mayor wasn't normal, nor was the town, which he could already feel and hadn't been in the town 24 hours yet. But, he wasn't quite prepared for Red.

He managed to supress the look of surprise on his face. His entry into Fandom Town was low-key, for a reason. The Mayor's information must be tight or he simply would chalk it up to it being a small town.

And in small towns, everyone knows everyone's business.

"It's a beautiful little place, Mayor. Quiet, reserved...which makes me wonder why you needed someone to come in for the law and order. It doesn't have that feel of a town that has any sorts of problems with crime."

"Well, thank you, Mayor. I'm glad I have your vote of confidence in handling the situation. I've been keeping up with it and I'm surprised things turned out like they did." Lucas shrugged. "But it's a closed case now. Not sure what I can do to help that any more."

He crossed his legs and leaned back in the chair. "And I'm not real sure what qualifications you think I have to stop a 'fireball' fight from erupting in your town again."

He listened to Red and nodded at the appropriate times. "And you want to know what my personal motivations are for coming." It was a statement, not a question. Buck leaned forward. "You want assurances I have your town's best interests at heart."

"I take that as a compliment, Mayor," Lucas replied. "I have no designs on Fandom Town, sir, other than to help reestablish order, keep the balance of power and herd those who believe Fandom Town is nothing more than their own personal playground for fireworks and activities which potentially threaten innocent people's lives and wellbeing."

Lucas leaned back, his gaze sharp on Red's face. "Tell you what, Mayor. If you believe, at any time, that I'm contributing to the threat and not the effort to maintain order, you are free to tell me to hit the road. And I won't fight you on it. You have my word."
