The Fourth Sin - Wednesday Night

Becky sat behind the desk as usual, flipping through a Sharper Image catalogue and occasionally marking pages.

She shifted slightly, adjusting the envelope that was stuck in her back pocket. Every few minutes, she would glance up to the door as though waiting for someone to come in.

Happy to have made a sale at the House of Illusions last night, thereby proving that he isn't a failure at business, Gob decided he could celebrate tonight with a trip to the Sin.

"How are you tonight, Becky?" he asked happily as he approached the desk.

"I'm perfect today," Gob said as he opened the envelope. "I actually sold something yesterday! A book. A book that I wrote!"

He seemed ecstatic as he idly opened the envelope. "Sorry about the mail." He skimmed the letter as he spoke. "I don't know what NPC Postman is doing. I mean..." As his eyes came across the end of the page, Gob stopped and looked terrified. "OMG."

"OMG. Oscar Meyer Garrett. He's a hitman with the Alliance of Magicians. He says that if I don't close down my shop..." Gob added a few seconds to a typical dramatic pause. He mistakenly felt this would make it more dramatic and not just kind of boring. "... he'll close it down for me. With a sledgehammer."

"He's a magician. I've seen him turn a sledgehammer into a shotgun. One time he turned it into a crocodile. I don't even know how he hid the crocodile."

The crocodile had been hiding in a box. It was a pretty impressive trick.

"That was all crap. I was kicked out of the Alliance a few years ago and they banned me from calling myself a magician. Get caught using ONE trick to hide your felon father and they kick you out!"

Gob somberly stared at a far wall, hoping once again to appear dramatic. "I shouldn't have sold that book." That book is Magic for Morons: The Secrets of Illusion Revealed for Schmucks Like You by GOB Bluth, still 20% off at Bluth's House of Illusions.

"I've made a terrible mistake."

"Really? How can you be so sure?" Gob asked, suddenly sounding calm.

"Really?" Gob had been touched by the Hand of Human Kindness. He wasn't used to being touched that way, especially in this building. There was a very good feeling in his heart, which is not the typical body place he felt good while in this building.

"Thank you, Becky," he said with most of his normal verbal swagger. "I appreciate it."

[OOC: You took this in a direction that I really wasn't expecting - even though I should have - but I can work with it. And make it sillier. Thank you.]

His spirits back up to where they were when he first walked in, Gob started to talk business. "So, is there anyone in particular I should see tonight?"

[OOC: Oh, no, don't worry about it. I didn't think it through before. And for the record, the weird direction is a new, wacky place I have to take to get where I want. This is even sillier than I was planning to begin with. You'll get an e-mail.]

"Of course. They have an... inner fire that shines in their hair," Gob said, attempting to speak in a poetic manner.

"I'll keep that in mind."

Gob pulled a card out of thin air and gave it to Becky. Amazingly enough, it was the Queen of Hearts, exactly the card he was trying for. "Thanks again, Becky."

Inara came in with her purchases from the Emporium. "Good evening, sir," she addresses Gob through her sniffles. "Becky, I'll be in my room or the sitting room. If any of my customers calls in, I have a call and I'm not taking any appointments until the weekend."
