Aziraphale's Rare Books, Thursday.

Kiki opens the shop in the morning.

In her down time, Kiki is still assiduously studying a spell book.

Finally, rubbing her hands together, she nervously faces the picture window at the front of the shop and concentrates, muttering under her breath. She grins widely when a festive evergreen garland materializes slowly, twining decoratively around the window.

Kiki frowns. Instead of the sprigs of cheery red hollyberries she had intended to have created, sprinkled tastefully throughout the garland, there hangs instead several glaringly chartreuse and purple avocados. And that hanging from the corner is definitely a cantaloupe. Having not yet mastered the more tricky reversal of the spell, Kiki sighs, hands on her hips, then pulls over a chair, climbs up on it, and starts pulling down the avocados. Mundane clean-up will have to do.

"I hope Mr. Aziraphale and Mr. Crowley like guacamole," she mutters to herself. "So much for festive holiday decor."

EDIT: Mr. Aziraphale is decidedly better at getting rid of abnormally-colored avocados than Kiki is. There are no more avocados appearing from nowhere, but there might be the odd one or two still rolling about.

Happy that Marty wasn't working for a change, Belthazor wandered into the store and approached the counter. "Hey, you're a witch, right?" he asked Kiki.

"My girlfriend's a witch, kind of a beginner though," Belthazor said. "I've been poking around for a good book for her on magical components for potions and spells. Herbs, gemstones, stuff like that. Can you recommend one? It's going to be a Yule present for her." He smiled charmingly.

Bel took note of the titles. "Thanks for your help," he said. "Guess I'll have to wait to buy one though if only Aziraphale has the key. I'll hang out for awhile to see if he shows up." He looked at Kiki's book. "How's that one working out for you?"

Aziraphale wanders out from the kitchen, carrying a tray of scones. He gives Kiki a bright smile. "Thank you for opening up today, Kiki."

He turns and smiles at Belthazor as well. "Good day, my dear. Are you looking for Crowley?"

"Not this time," Bel said, grinning. "I'm actually shopping for a present for Phoebe, my girlfriend. I was hoping to find a book on magical components for spells and potions. I think she'd really like that."

"Oh, is it a holiday gift, then?" Setting down the tray, Aziraphale goes to the locked cabinet where he keeps his more...unusual inventory, pulling a small brass key from his pocket to open it.

"Did you have anything in particular in mind, my dear? And you do understand, of course, that I don't sell spellbooks themselves."

He steps aside, to allow Belthazor to look over the contents of the cabinet.

[OOC: That sounded good to me! He won't actually sell any but the most mundane of the spellbooks, and only those if you really work at it. But source books, like your ones on minerals and toadstools, are all good!]

Bel nodded. "It's for a Yule present. She already has her own spellbook, but I thought it might be helpful for her if she knew why she was using the ingredients she was supposed to use so that she can create ones of her own. You know, what's good for protection, restful sleep, stuff like that." He peered into the cabinet, scanning the titles.

"Oh, I quite understand. Let me see..."

He peers over Bel's shoulder at the books, reaching in to pull out a couple for inspection.

"What about...Magical Properties of Household Herbs? Or, this one -- Everyday Magic: Basic Ingredients, Volume One."

"I like the sound of that second one," Bel said. "Is there a second volume available as well then?"

"I don't appear to have it in stock....Oh no, wait, here it is!" The angel snags another book from the shelf, similar to the one Bel had chosen, but bound in dark green rather than dark blue.

"Now, do understand that they aren't up to date. Most of my books are rather old, you know."

"Well, it's just the basics I'm looking for," Bel said. "So I'm sure those two will do. How much are they, though? If they're so old are they expensive?" He looked apprehensive.

"Let me check the book." Aziraphale takes the two volumes over to the counter, looking up the prices in his inventory ledger.

"Seventy dollars for the pair. Does that sound reasonable, my dear?"

Bel smiled. "That's great. Means I'll still have enough left to get Phoebe a few other things, too." He pulled out his wallet and set four twenty dollar bills on the counter.

He rings up the sale and makes change, then wraps the books carefully in brown paper and hands them across the counter.

"Here you are. I do hope she enjoys them. Stay a few minutes for tea if you have time."

Aziraphale chuckles softly to himself about the avocados as Kiki heads off to the kitchen.

He took the books and his change. "Thanks," Bel said. "I'm sure she'll love them."

He checked his watch. "I've got some time before I have to get back to school, so I can stay awhile."
