House of Illusions, Thursday night

Gob was at the booth again. He looked pretty nervous. It seemed almost as if he was half-expecting a hitman from the Alliance of Magicians to appear, turn a sledgehammer into a crocodile, and destroy his shop.

A sign was on the booth:

BESTSELLER!!! Book Sale: "Magic for Morons: The Secrets of Illusion Revealed for Schmucks Like You" by GOB Bluth, 20% off.

After class, Veronica decides to take a walk in to town to see if Lilly is working. She enters the magic shop and starts looking around.

[OOC: FYI, the "shop" is actually a small 4' X 6' booth. V can glance around from the outside, though.]

Gob looked up. He hadn't expected two customers in a week. "Hello there, miss. See anything you like?"

"Oh hey, I was looking for Lilly Kane, actually. Doesn't she work here?"

"She does, but she usually only shows up for the magic shows."

Gob pulled a full deck of cards out of thin air and held it up. "Pick a card."

Veronica takes one.

"Am I supposed to look at it?"

"Well, it isn't much of a trick if you don't!" Gob laughed theatrically.

Veronica looks at the card and makes a mental note that she's holding the three of hearts.

"Okay, now what?"

Gob slid the rest of the deck into a neat stack, then pressed it to his forehead. "Is your card... the Five of Diamonds?"

"Uh, no."

"Of course not! Why would it be that when it's actually..." Gob reached over and flipped the sign at the front of the booth. On it was a large "King of Spades!"

Veronica bites her lip.

"No, not that one either."

Gob smiled for a beat before pulling off his jacket and showing the inside lining. Sewn to the lining gwas a "Jack of Spades?"

He stood up and showed his chair, revealing an "Eight of Diamonds?"

Frustrated, he asked, "Okay, what was it?"

"The three of hearts."

"Damn!" Gob opened the cash register and pulled out the Three of Hearts. "Ta daa!"

Gob threw the card back. "I'll have that one down better next time."

[OOC: It's the shop pre-swanning! Oh, how I've barely had time to miss it!]
