Friday afternoon, Barbossa's cove on the beach [Friday afternoon]
Barbossa was tooling around his recently acquired jollyboat. He was carefully painting over the name of the ship it had come from and rechristening it the Heidy Ho III.
Don't ask what happened to the first two Heidy Hos. Really.
He glanced down the beach every now and again, waiting for someone.

He scratched at his beard. "Barbossa be a last name. Thar be a bit o' a question as t'what me first name be. The paperwork be a mite smudged."

Barbossa took off his hat and bowed his head. "A terrible tale, what happened t' Heidy Ho I and II." He laughed and put his hat back on. "Kidding. I had a wooden boat when I was knee high t' a grasshopper that I named t' Heidy Ho. Dropped it over the side of me first ship as a cabin boy durin' a patch o' rough seas. Heidy Ho II was what the Cap'n called the boat that would take us t' Tortuga, the most wonderous town in the Caribbean if ye be lookin' fer drinkin', fightin' and wenchin'. Which we were." He laughed. "That one disappeared when the Cap'n made one o' the wenches unhappy. She took the boat, scuttled it in the bay 'n made us swim back t' the ship."

"D'anna, this is Captain Barbossa from the radio station. Barbossa, this is D'anna. She's the photographer for this assignment."
She turns back to Barbossa. "That's an awesome story. Horrible, but awesome. Have you been a pirate all your life, or when did you start?"

He bowed at D'anna. "It be a pleasure t'meet ye, D'anna."

She wonders what qualifies as answers showing a well-rounded person from a pirate.

"The foundlin' home were in Port Royale, down in the Caribbean. I be not sure what the modern name fer the place might be."

"And ... modern. So you aren't from this time?"

Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
"D'anna, do you want to do pictures, and then we can get back to the interview?"
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
[ooc: This is the third time I've tried to comment here today. I hope it works.]
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
[OOC: Got it now. *beats on LJ with a big stick*]
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
"Let me know when you guys are done."

Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
He unfurled the mast and let it catch the breeze.
"I be not seein' the school from this angle before," he said after they had sailed a bit away from the island. "It be quite the pretty patch o' land."
He turned to Angela and D'anna. "The seas be not too rough fer ye?"

He gave Angela a conspiratorial wink. "I've always been a mite attracted t' not precisely followin' the rules 'n pokin' at countries 'n people wit' an overinflated sense o' their own importance. Since I can't exactly go around pillagin' people o' their silver 'n gold, I figgered mockin' 'em where the rest o' the school can hear'll have t'do me."
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
Her stomach beginning to settle, she leans back. The late fall sun is almost hot on her face.
"So what do you miss most about being a pirate?"
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
He turned his face into the wind and let the salt water mist spray him. "I miss this," he said. "The sea, the movement. Seein' places 'n things that no one else be seein'. The battles be glorious, the treasure be temptin', the wenches be invitin', but it's the sea that calls ye. It gets into yer blood."
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
She is quiet for a moment, watching Barbossa in his element, seeming absolutely at peace.
"I can understand that," she says, quietly. Then: "Do you have any really good stories about being a pirate that I should put in the article?"
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
He shifted the rudder and the boat turned, following the coastline.
"Let me see. Thar were a time we were huntin' fer this lost treasure of Cortez--the explorer. We'd just sunk a Spanish ship headin' off fer Madrid wit' all the gold they could steal from South America, so we felt morally obligated t'take it back, keep it closer t'home like." Barbossa wiped his face with his sleeve. "So the Cap'n sent us out on what turned into a wild goose chase around most o' the West Indies. Ended up wit' half the crew stagin' a mutiny 'n bein' left on a deserted isle."
He grinned. "First rule o' piracy. If ye be stagin' a mutiny, be damned sure most o' the crew be wit' ye. And as we be generally a group o' lyin' bastards, double check. Or blackmail. Because askin' nicely jes' be not goin' t' cut it."
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
He shrugged. "I be but a cabin boy at the time, in any event, 'n though I be everywhere 'n hear everythin', no one be thinkin' about askin' me t' join in one way or t' other." He gave the girls a wicked smile. "So I be tellin' the Cap'n the plan, which he already be knowin' in any event, on account of the planner bein' dumber than paint, and I be stayin' on the ship while they be walkin' the plank."
He wrinkled his nose. "Never did find that treasure, though. I might look fer it meself when I be gettin' a bit older."
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
"Okay, um, what are your favorite and least favorite things about life at Fandom High?"
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
He paused. "Zombies be not me favorite things. Or people wit' no sense o' humor about themselves. Or vampires who be tryin' t' eat people in me house." He glared. "That be very much not a favorite thing."

"New topic, then?" he said. "What else d'ye have t'ask me from in that notebook o' yers?"

She closes her notebook. "I think I have enough to write my story. Thanks for taking me out on your ship -- it's really nice to be on the water."
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
"D'anna, be ye wantin' t'take some pictures out here before we be sailin' back into harbor?"
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
That be an excellent idea Capt'n, argh and curse my scurvy need for sleepD'anna had snapped a few pictures of the ocean and island as the interview had gone on, but a few more of Barbossa would be a good idea."Sure." D'anna hefted her camera and clicked away. "This was a really nice way to end the day. Cold, but nice."
Re: Setting sail on the Heidy Ho III
He hopped out and dragged it in close to the shore.
"Ye be welcome on the Heidy Ho III any time."
