"Uh huh. Whatever you say, honey," Becky said, sounding bored. "Just as well you don't know what you're missing, in that case. Or...what you were missing, since a little bird told me that Angelus isn't any fun anymore."
"Actually...." Bel leaned over the desk and dropped his voice. "A moment of happiness brings him right back to normal, and for him that apparent means a good orgasm, so if he ever stops by...."
Becky grinned, and stretched languidly. "Now that I can work with. 'Course, if he's going to be a nice boy now, he wouldn't exactly pop in to see me, would he?"
"True enough, but maybe something can be arranged," Bel said, smirking. "Especially if you're willing to put on a blonde wig and hold a stake over his heart."
"He's got a thing for girls with wooden weaponry," Bel said. "The crosses might be a little overkill, though. Just one small one is fine.
"Anyway," he went on, "thanks for letting me interview you. It's for my sociology class final project. You want to talk right here, or somewhere else...?"
"I have no problem discussing whatever it is here," Becky replied coolly. "It's not as though anyone's around to overhear. And even then, I'm not a secretive person."
"Works for me," Bel said. "I'll try not to take up too much of your time. So, yeah, my sociology project is about the sex industry. If I ask something you don't want to answer, that's cool. So, first question I guess would be how did you get into this line of work, do you get any enjoyment out of it, why do you stay in it?"
"Okay. I started when I was sixteen, because I was...bored," Becky shrugged. "I wanted to do something exciting, something that made me feel powerful. And having the ability to drive men wild and make money? Pretty fuckin' powerful. That's why I started, and that's why I stayed."
She sighed, and thought for a moment. "Enjoyment depends entirely on the customer, and his abilities. If he's good at it, more fun for me. If he's bad, well...I still get paid. Win-win, really. I just win more sometimes than others."
Bel scribbled a few notes as Becky spoke. "How would you describe your job?" he said. "I mean, there's the obvious, or do you see some deeper meaning to your clients as well as the power you feel yourself?"
"Everyone has their own interpretation of what sex should be. To some it's a power trip. To others it's a fun way to spend an hour - more or less. To quite a few unfortunate souls," Becky looked very sad at this thought, "it's about love. I haven't often had customers who actually told me how they've felt. I think the majority of people who employ my services, however, probably fall under the second heading."
Nodding, Bel scribbled a few more notes. "What are you thoughts on the porn industry?" he asked. "Do you consider people who work in that area an equal, an inferior, and why?"
Becky bit her lip in thought. "Equal, I suppose. They're fairly unrelated, really. Porn is about voyeurism. Prostitution is about going to whatever monetary lengths neccessary in order to ensure pleasure. Different kinks. Though, if you include the people who make sexual props - toys, cuffs, so on - as part of the porn industry, then they actually help my business."
"Do you have well-defined limits on what you will and will not do?" Bel went on. "Or is it anything goes for the right place? Or somewhere in between? Were these limits created from bad experience, or did you set them in advance?"
"There are some things. I don't like girls. I don't do anything that'll leave a mark," Becky shrugged. "But it's mostly based off of preference, since we have girls around who will do the things that I won't."
"That kinda leads to my last question," Bel said. "Even if there's something you won't personally do, you'd have no problem providing the service if you found something willing to do it? Like, say, you don't want something that leaves a mark, so a vampire would be right out. Would you seek out someone to satisfy vampire cliental despite your own personal objections? How much of your own tastes do you apply to your business as a whole?"
He grinned at Becky. "I'm not using vampires for any reason. Just seemed a good example."
"Well, considering I did sleep with a vampire a couple weeks ago without him actually biting hard enough to leave a mark..." Becky returned the grin. "But to answer your question, I would find someone else to do it if my own comfort level, sad as it may be, was in danger of being compromised. And in the case of there not being anyone available? No amount of money is worth my dignity or my comfort."
He wrote down a few more notes. "Thanks," he said. "You've been a lot of help, really. Do you want me not to use your name or anything? I can make up a fake name to protect your privacy if you want. I don't think anybody but my professor and class will see the report anyway."
"I don't care. It's Becky Vartan, V-A-R-T-A-N. And yes, I did," Becky smiled. "And it was fun. And apparently won't be a repeated occurance unless I invest in a stake."
"Tell me about it," Bel said, rolling his eyes. He picked up his notebook. "Thanks again for your help. Ever need a favor, let me know. I'll see what I can do for you."
