Aziraphale's Festively-Decorated Bookshop

Kiki opens the shop, and runs through her mental check-off list.

"Open" sign - check.
Tea and cocoa - check.
Scones and biscuits - check.
Crackling fire in the fireplace - check.
Cozy chairs and pillows - check.
Festive decorations - check.
Lack of avocados - check!

"Oh, quite, my dear. But still...it's a bit of time away from work. I haven't done that in ages."

He smiles brightly, looking for all the world like he's about to embark on a week-long cruise rather than a day escorting a doctor to New Jersey.

There was simply no resisting that smile, especially since Wilson knew Phale didn't often have a good reason to wear it so he simply nodded and grinned in return.

"All right...but you know what this means right? We have to find and purchase a thoroughly tackey little snowglobe with a replica of the Statue of Liberty in it for you to bring home."

Having no idea why this might be considered a bad thing, Aziraphale nods his agreement, still smiling.

"That's a lovely idea. Did you see the ornament my 'Secret Santa' gave me?"

Wilson blinked, then he slowly grinned.

"You...have a Secret Santa? I thought ... bah, never mind that's just me being cynical. An ornament? Where is it?"

The shop must be swimming in ornaments at this point, Wilson quickly wondered if Phale had ever had quite so chaotic a holiday before.

Aziraphale points out a penguin ornament (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomtownies/429779.html) hanging from his cash register. "I signed up on a list with Kiki, to play a Christmas gift-giving game. That's my first gift. I think I get two more, and I have to guess who sent them," he explains, obviously assuming that since he'd never heard of 'Secret Santa', neither had Wilson.

Unfolding himself from the couch, Wilson moved towards the old fashion cash register, lifting the little ornament and studying it with a grin.

"This, is adorable." He tapped the halo and turned back to the angel, coming back to the couch.

"And if I remember my office politics correct, you have someone that you're doing the same thing for?" Wilson grinned fiendishly. "Who is it?"

He knew Phale couldn't say but that didn't stop him from asking, because that was part of the fun after all!

"James, dear, you know I can't tell you that," Aziraphale responds, chuckling. "After all, it could be you. And then we'd ruin all the fun."

Re: Books

[identity profile] dr-jwilsonmd.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Laughing softly, Wilson shook his head.

"I can tell you right now it's not me because I didn't sign up to participate." Dark eyes twinkled amusedly over at the angel. "So... see? You'd be safe telling me."

Re: Books

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
The angel raises his eyebrows. "You didn't sign up? Whyever not? I know it isn't because you're not Christian -- after all, the party was your idea."

His tone is light and teasing, but he looks a little concerned, wondering if there's a reason Wilson declined to participate.

[identity profile] dr-jwilsonmd.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Holdover, from the hospital." Wilson explained with a warm, fond smile. "I was the Head of Oncology as well as a sitting member of the Board of Medicine. When people answer to you, you have to maintain a certain level of...decorum...of distance. It helps people, especially young medical students, to remember that there is line of respect they do not cross."

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Were you really? That's quite an accomplishment." There's a proud note to Aziraphale's voice.

"But there's no reason to hold yourself back here, James, you know."

Re: Books

[identity profile] dr-jwilsonmd.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Well...perhaps next year." Wilson said in a tone that indicated he'd probably forget and not participate then either.

"So, I suppose you're not even going to tell me what you got your Secret Santa buddy?"

Wilson weedled, not to subtly.

Re: Books

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
The angel laughs softly. "All right, but only if you promise not to say a word to anyone."

Leaning closer, he whispers a name in Wilson's ear.

"Now do remember, you promised."

Re: Books

[identity profile] dr-jwilsonmd.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Wilson listened with the eagerness that anyone shows at leasting a fun secret...an eagerness that sort of blanked out into a blink and a startled stare as he tried to wrap his brain around *that* name.

"Uh..." A brilliant response and the young doctor moved quickly to follow it up. "I mean...that's...that's nice?"

Re: Books

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Aziraphale chuckles softly as he leans back in his chair. "I'm rather enjoying it, actually. I wonder if they'll figure it out."

Sipping at his tea, he adds, "I ought to get something for Crowley."

Re: Books

[identity profile] dr-jwilsonmd.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Well of course." Wilson exclaimed as if that were a given.

"What were you thinking about gifting him with?"

Because quite honestly, what did one give a demon who...could pretty much get anything he wanted?

Re: Books

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Do you know, I really have no idea. I've never got him a gift before, except for the tea that one time, and the plant."

Sighing, he says, "But perhaps I'll think of something. He always has these catalogues he looks through. Perhaps there's something in there."

Re: Books

[identity profile] dr-jwilsonmd.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Sitting quietly for a moment, Wilson perked up as he asked.

"Wait...you mean the ones he was reading that had you asking me what a DVR is?"

Re: Books

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
The angel nods. "Yes, exactly. I imagine there are some of them around here someplace."

He glances casually around the shop, but doesn't actually make any move to go look for one.

Re: Books

[identity profile] dr-jwilsonmd.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmmm." Wilson said with a thoughtful expression sliding across his face.

"So Crowley likes gadgets?" The young doctor's lips twitched as he thought about House and the older doctor's adoration for gadgets and modern big boy toys.

"Well, we can certainly find ... anything and everything in the city. Bring a couple of the catalogues along for the car ride, if you don't think Crowley would miss them?"

Re: Books

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'll just tell him I gave them to Marty," Aziraphale says, with a dismissive wave of his hand. "It'll give him an excuse to have a good mad."

He gives Wilson that delighted smile again, the one that shows in his eyes as well, and pours himself some more tea.

Re: Books

[identity profile] dr-jwilsonmd.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Wilson had been innocently taking a sip of cocoa which he about choked on when he heard Phale's words.

Cough, "Come..." cough. "Come again?"

Dark eyes looked up to those mischevious blue and Wilson felt his lips twitch.

"Remind me never to get on the bad side of your sense of humor!"

Re: Books

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"I've no idea what you mean, James. Crowley enjoys a really good temper now and again. It keeps him from taking it all out on Kiki."

He looks just a bit mischievous, and sips at his tea.

Re: Books

[identity profile] dr-jwilsonmd.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh...I imagine he might have a bit of a one when you tell him you're going with me to New Jersey and New York for a day and a night."

Wilson said with a hint of ruefulness.
