After a mostly uneventful evening yesterday and a quiet trudge through the snow this morning, Lilah typed up an e-mail.

Wesley opens the door and approaches the receptionist. "Er... Ms. Morgan asked me to come by. I don't have an appointment." He has a seat and begins reading Modern Mystica; it's the swimsuit issue. Goodness. I didn't know Ethros demons *had* bikinis.

Lilah recognized the voice and casually walked into the reception area, leaning against the wall. "Well, Wesley. I wondered when your cat-like curiosity would bring you back through my door."

Wesley stands. "Now that I am here, what did you want to discuss?"

"Me? I remember telling you to come see me when your curiosity was killing you, which I guess it is." She smiled. "Why don't you come back into my office, so you can ask your questions without anyone bothering us? I'm sure you have plenty."

Wesley follows Lilah into her office, paying no attention at all to the remarkably tight skirt she is wearing.

Lilah perched on her desk, crossing her legs at the knee. The office was still sparsely furnished, especially for a lawyer of her caliber and tastes. There were only two chairs in front of the desk, her desk, the chair behind it, and the walls full of what looked like ordinary law books. There were also no windows.

"Have a seat," she said, gesturing to the rest of the room.

Wesley chooses the chair to the right. It's quite uncomfortable.

"I assume you have questions? Go ahead, ask them."

"How did you learn about the Watcher's Council? Are you an auxiliary of some sort?"

She chuckled. "An auxiliary? No, not quite. My employers have known of the Watchers' Council almost as long as there have been slayers, however. You don't need to worry your head about an information leak."

Wes freezes. "Slayers?" Shit. There's been a horrific information leak.

She shrugged, then raised an eyebrow. "Young girls, usually pretty and spunky, born to a very short lifespan and destined to fight the forces of evil, but particularly vampires. Any of this ringing a bell?"

"Um... I can't say it sounds very practical." Hastily, "How do you know my name?"

"Not really practical, no, or efficient, for that matter." She smiled a very satisfied smile. "Let's just say I knew you, once upon my time."

"Ms. Morgan, you promised to answer my questions, yet you're being a great deal less than forthcoming. Which questions, precisely, do you intend to answer?"

"I'm contractually bound not to give you direct answers," Lilah stated, "and, word to the wise? If you're ever in a position where you're signing a contract with this place? Read the fine print, and don't sign in blood."

She thought for a few minutes, trying to think of loopholes. "However, we are currently hiring. Anything you might happen to find in the case files, clients you might happen to see in the hallway, well, I couldn't stop that, now could I?"

"What sort of idiot would sign anything in blood?" Wes rolls his eyes. "In any case, what's your motive? What duties are you hiring for, and why are you picking me, about whom you know " -- he hastily edits the sentence -- "very little."

"Student loans make you do stupid things sometimes," Lilah sighed, "and I was young and thought it was red ink."

"My motive?" She smirked, "I want to see you go out into the world a little more prepared to face it than you are now. The job is for a legal intern--basic research on a number of rather intriguing and varied client issues, drafting documents, mostly boring and harmless stuff."

"There is another intern working here already. I doubt you'd find her that interesting, though," she looked out at him from under slightly lowered lashes, trying to read his interest.

"She's only a vampire. I don't suppose you would have heard of Darla, anyway," she sneered in annoyance, then continued, "Some of our clients, on the other hand--have you ever met a chaos demon? Gotta love oozing antlers. They make such a unique fashion statement, don't you think?"

Wesley thinks for a moment. Research is always good. I might pick up something Father the Watchers haven't heard about yet.

"Very well, I accept. I can certainly overlook any of your less wholesome employees if they return the favor. When do you want me to start?"

"Excellent. And I'm sure they'll pay you the same regard you pay to them." Lilah grinned and leaned back a little, uncrossing her legs, then recrossing them, but this time with the left leg on top. "We're a little slow at the moment, so I won't need more than one day a week, unless you want to come in more often. If we suddenly get busy, of course, that may change."

"I also know you have finals coming up, so if you want to wait until after the end of the semester and start work once you have your new class schedule, I have no problem with that."

Wesley shrugged. "My schoolastic duties this fall haven't been terribly taxing." Because all of my professors have dropped out of the game! "Shall I start next week?"

"Such a good student," she smiled. "Next week is fine."

[ooc: Feel free to open the office in the townies thread, as long as no one else has. Darla-mun has the same permission. We should probably also talk with fh_anonymous about doing some short-term demon client plots or something.]

Wes stands, in no way taking advantage of the angle to glance up Lilah's skirt, and heads for the door.
