[The Perkolator: Friday, Nov 9, around 2:00pm FHST]

Krycek ordered a small coffee and sat at a table near the window with his notepad at the ready. He looked like he was waiting for someone in particular, tapping his pencil against the paper idly as he let his mind wander.

[ooc: Use post as you like, but Krycek's there for [livejournal.com profile] emo_padawan]

Anakin walked into the coffee shop and ordered a large coffee before walking over to the guy with the notepad.

"Krycek?" he asked.

"Anakin's fine," he replied, pulling up a chair and sitting down. "So. You wanted to ask me about holiday traditions, right?"

Anakin grimaced and took another sip from his cup. "I became quite familiar with your holidays," he said. "I was volunteered for last night's pageant."

He fiddled with his coffee cup for a moment. "I'm originally from a planet called Tatooine, in what we refer to as the Outer Rim of our galaxy." He smiled. "Which is, um, far, far, away from here. I moved to Coruscant, the world, well, runs the galaxy sounds a bit pompous, but it's definitely houses all of the government headquarters for the Republic." He yanked at his braid. "And also the Temple of the Jedi Order, which is why I lived there."

"None that are really celebrated galaxy-wide, if that's what you mean," Anakin said. "Different planets still maintain their own traditions, of course, but Coruscant only celebrates the day that the Republic was founded." He smiled. "The theory being if the government took a day off for every holiday every world in the Republic celebrated, they'd never be open. The Republic encompasses more than 5,000 separate planetary systems."

He frowned. "I've had to learn about a lot of the traditions of the various planets, and there are still celebrations that occur when the sun or suns are hitting their solstice points. The celebration of triumph of light over darkness is a theme that's fairly universal, I believe." He gazed down into his mug. "As for religious overtones, there might still be some on planets that are pretty far from the Core, but for the most part we've moved on to an understanding of the Force--the universal thread that unites all of us--rather than believing in gods or goddesses of any kind."

Anakin really didn't want to talk about Tatooine. He stalled for a bit by playing with the napkins. "Tatooine has a holiday around this time called Boonta Eve," he finally said. "One of those light over the darkness type deals. It's celebrated with parties in the streets of the major cities--and there aren't that many major cities--Tatooine's mostly desert. There's also a big race in these machines called podracers, which the contestants all make themselves. It's pretty much the highlight of the year on the world." He shook his head. "Not a lot that's fun or interesting happening on Tatooine."

He took another sip from his cup. "And the Temple's not big on holidays," he said. "They say it's because every day we get to work with the Force should be celebration enough." Anakin snorted. "I've read some of the Archives. I think it was because some of the old Jedi Masters couldn't hold their alcohol at certain public events."

Anakin shifted in his chair. "Well the pageant was certainly different. I don't think I've ever seen quite as unique a combination of acting, dance and music." He looked a little confused. "Wasn't sure what the significance of the giraffe was at the end. It didn't come up in any of the research I did about the holiday."

He took another sip from his mug. "I think I like it better than Thanksgiving," he said, "which was a holiday giving praise to food that comes in cans, right?" He grinned. "This one comes with the possibility of gifts. Without holidays at home, we don't do gifts often. So, yeah, I guess I'm a fan of Christmas."

"Oh, talking about Boonta Eve is fine," Anakin said. He gazed off at nothing, then finally looked back at Krycek. "Just...home, you know? Haven't been back in a while. I'd forgotten about some stuff."

He drained his coffee mug. "It was a pleasure to talk to you," he said sincerely.

Anakin waved. "Looking forward to it."
