Rare Books Shop, Friday

The shop is festively decorated with greenery, handmade ornaments, a miniature train set in one corner, and stockings on the fireplace. A very nice spread is laid out for tea in the lounge, and Aziraphale has taken over Crowley's stereo system, which is now softly playing classical seasonal music.

In the window are two flyers: one for Friday's caroling and one for Saturday's gathering.

The proprietor himself can be found in his armchair near the window, pouring over a stack of books on holiday traditions.

Aziraphale looks up from his reading and smiles at Phoebe. "Good day, Miss Halliwell. Is this the day for my, er, interview, or can I help you with another matter?"

After I-club Angel decided to do a little investigating of his own. He took advantage of the sewers to go to Phale's bookstore. He'd been there before with Marty, but this time he actually wanted to see the owner.

Not that he'd done anything useful like make an appointment or anything. But couldn't hurt to try, right?

Angel browsed the store, taking in the inventory while he waited to see if Phale might be around.

The jingle of the bell on the door alerts Aziraphale to the fact that he has a customer, and he heads out from the kitchen (where he's been making sandwiches) to see who's arrived.

Spotting the figure lurking in the dim shadows of the stacks, he raises an eyebrow and walks over. "Good day, my dear. Can I...help you find something?"

"Was looking for you actually," Angel replied. Now that he had the benefit of not being under a spell, Phale looked.... actually about the same as he'd looked the other night. Though there was the advantage that at least Angel didn't have to worry that he'd suddenly want to make out with him.

"For me? Er...well, do come and sit down then. Can I offer you some tea? Or, cocoa if you prefer."

Motioning for Angel to follow him, Aziraphale heads off into the lounge at the back of the shop, very much hoping that this chat will go better than yesterday's.

"Tea's fine," Angel said as he followed in Phale's direction. "Assuming it's not going to be like yearbook food or anything."

Casting a confused look back over his shoulder, the angel says, "Yearbook food? Nooo...I don't believe so. I made it myself here in the shop." Reaching the lounge, he takes up two cups from the tea tray and pours for the two of them. "There's sandwiches and scones too -- do you eat sandwiches? And...things like?"

"I can," Angel said. He took a seat. "But I don't have to. Blood's the big thing." He looked at Phale curiously. "You do?"

Aziraphale sets Angel's cup on a table nearby and settles into one of the armchairs. "Hm? I do...Oh! Eat, you mean. Yes, of course. Well not just sandwiches and scones, obviously. Although it does rather seem like I've been existing on them lately -- I don't get out as often as I ought. I'm really rather partial to sushi, but we haven't anyplace here that makes it. Shame, really."

He pauses for a moment to sip at his tea and silently bemoan Fandom's lack of good sushi restaurants.

"Thai either," Angel agreed. "Been meaning to check out the Russian place though."

"Oh, yes. Crowley and I keep meaning to go ourselves, but we never seem to find the time. To be honest, I don't know that I've eaten out very much at all here. Mostly, we just go to the pubs."

He smiles warmly, getting a little more comfortable. "Are you, er...feeling better?"

It was a sad state of affairs that Angel actually had to run down a list of multiple options for what qualified as him feeling "worse" before he guessed which one Phale was talking about. "Yeah. Thanks. Love spell. Fun to go through, except not."

"Love spell? Good heavens. That's a strange one. Why on earth would someone want to cast a love spell on you?" The obvious answer suddenly occurred to him, and he blinked and turned a little pink.

"Ah, well. Yes. Seems to have, er, backfired, one would assume?"

"Little bit," Angel agreed. "Instead of going after the person they wanted me to go after, I went after pretty much everybody else." There was a long pause as Angel contemplated a very painful scenario. "Suddenly glad I only went with trying to shake your hand."

All right, that was a possibility he hadn't considered. Aziraphale blinked, and looked sympathetic.

"Er, yes. That would have been...unpleasant for you. I am so sorry about your, er, burn. I really ought to have known better."

"Not the worst I've had lately." If Angel was aware that he absently rubbed at the center of his chest when he said that, he gave no indication. "So - uh - what's up with that? What kind of demon are you, anyway?"
