Luke's Diner [Monday Evening]

Luke's is open and it's festively decorated with tinsel, lights and the ornaments Lorelai made the students make in detention. He scowls every time he sees glitter, which, given te amount of glitter Lorelai encouraged them to use, is pretty much all the time.

He writes a sign and sticks it in the window.

Apartment for Rent above diner. No students. Pets okay. Rent negotiable. Talk to Luke.

Now that he and Lorelai have the house on the mainland, they won't need to stay in town and he figures they can use the extra cash and the extra security of having someone around when the diner isn't open.

After seeing that Speech class was cancelled because Professor Cregg was in an accident, Veronica and Piper decide to head into town for an early dinner at Luke's.

Veronica noticed the sign about the apartment on the way in. She and Piper sit at a table near the counter and start perusing the menus.

Luke walks over to the girls.

"What can I get you to drink?" he asks.

Veronica smiled up at him.

"We haven't decided yet," she said, "but can I ask you about the sign in the window?"

He frowns. "No students, sorry."

"Oh, I'm not asking for me," she assured him. "A friend of mine is thinking about moving here. I've got a job lined up for him at Caritas, but he'll need a place to live."

Luke thinks about this.

"You said it's a he? I like the idea of having someone around to protect the place when I'm not here."

Veronica chuckled. "He can definitely take care of himself and keep this place safe, sir." She paused. "And, if it's okay with you, he's going to bring my dog with him."

Luke shrugs.

"Yeah, pets are okay as long as your dog is well behaved."

"My dog is very well behaved, I promise." After a moment she added, "So is my friend."

Luke gives a half smile at that.

"All right, you wanna fill out the application for him then? I can give you the keys tonight."

"Sure, that would be great," Veronica said with a wide grin.

"Oh, and, can I have an iced tea?"

He nods. "Sure thing. What about you?" he addresses the quiet brunette.

"Diet Coke, please," Piper says politely.

After Luke walked away, Veronica turned to Piper.

"Well at least that's one good thing that came out of today."

Piper nodded. "Yeah, today isn't the best of days, huh?"

She tried to change the subject. "I can't wait to meet this friend of yours."

"I really hope Professor Cregg is okay. I should stop by and see Jack. I know he's close to her," she said, a worried look on her face.

Then she gave a shy smile. "He's really cool, even though he comes off as a little intimidating."

"I'll go with you if you want," Piper offered.

She grinned at Veronica. "Intimidating never bothered me."

"Let's see if he's in when we get back to the dorms."

Veronica chuckled. "He's the leader of our local biker gang back home."

"Good idea."

Piper blinked. "Are you serious?"

"Yep. Leather jacket, tattoos, the whole nine yards."

"Wow. You have some interesting friends," Piper said with a smile.

"I know. Witches, vampires, bikers," she said with a grin. "I think I surround myself with interesting people so I look more normal," she teased.

Piper giggles. "Nothing wrong with that."

Since Paige was having something of a break down up in her room finishing off her presentation for Cat tomorrow Sawyer suggested they leave the school for a while and actually go for the dinner they'd dicussed.

They walk in, Sawyer's arm wrapped Paige and her's around him as they head for a booth.

"This place doesn't house any Debbie Novotny's does it?" he cocks a brow as he surveys the place, taking a booth with her to look at the menu.

"I hope not," Paige says slghtly worriedly, "why?"

She sits opposite him and reaches out for his hand, cos she loves forcing him into PDAs

He cringes, "She hates me...but anyways! Mmm, burgers." he licks his lips as he stares at the menu, grasping his free hand with hers.

"That makes two of us then," she sighs.

She looks at her own menu, rubbing her foot against his leg as she does so.

"I'm thinking chicken" she says looking at the salad section of the menu. "You're buying right?" she asks with a grin looking up at him.
