Sunday Morning,
jacks_roses, Buffy Silently Angsts As She Prepa
[[OOC: Shush. You do not see me. The mun is in no way sneaking out of bed where she is supposed to be nursing a back injury and bronchitis to play at FH...not at all...these are not the droids you're looking for This is not the Mun/Slayer/Witch you think it is... *hides from her friends who KNOW that she's not well...err who know she should be resting. None of us here are "Well"...]]
Buffy sighed as she opened up the flower shoppe in town. After the chaos of registration and the weirdness of the phones...she had hung out in her dorm room...avoiding the common areas after she saw the linking of Angel and Callisto's names. She had taken her phone off the hook and hadn't checked her messages, either.
She arranged flowers and gifts as she tried to keep her sadness from being public knowledge. She wasn't angry or even jealous, really. She was just very sad...and truth be told, lonely. Since Tara, and then Sonia, had left, she really didn't have anyone that she could talk to...not really. Xander was still here, yes, but she got the feeling that he wanted to keep her at arm's length. She heard him talk about "his" Willow and "his" Buffy...and it only served to drive the point home that she was very much alone here. Ms. Calendar hated her --- and she had every reason to. It only seemed to make it worse that "her" Xander and "her" Willow hadn't contacted her even once since Giles sent her here. Hell, except for the occassional phone call where he checked in with her and passed along vague warnings and prophecies, Giles hadn't even contacted her. She had spent both major holidays here at the school. She had hoped that she would get the chance at a normal life here...not the chance for a normal (and solitary) Slayer's life like she had been told by Giles it always had been before.
She was still very deeply in love with Angel, she probably always would be. They were soulmates after all. However, after what happened...she had been forced to accept that at least for the foreseeable future, they couldn't be with each other. If she wanted him to keep his soul, she had t make sure to stay away from him so as not to make things more awkward for him.
Truth be told? If she and Angel couldn't be together, she was glad that he seemed to have found someone who did want to be with him and who now knew both sides of Angel...and Angelus. She honestly liked and respected Callisto a great deal. Even though she had been silentlyshipping rooting for Veronica and Angel to hook up, she could be happy that he was pursuing a relationship with Callisto, too.
Buffy frowned as she continued cleaning up the store for business the next day.
Making friends here hadn't been easy...okay, it had been damn near impossible. She knew very well what some of the kids had said abut her. She had heard what that weird Slayer Faith had told people, and what Parker had thought of her. She hadn't even spoken to Parker...but the other girl had made up her mind about her just from what she heard. She could count on two hands the friends she had made in the semester she had been at this crazy boarding school.
Sonia: Closest thing to a best friend she had had. Sonia understood the responsibility and the painful loneliness of being a Slayer. She had accepted what Buffy had told her about how she had caused Angel to become Angelus and hadn't judged her or condemned her for it. However, Sonia had left suddenly...responsibilty had called.
Frank: He had seemed to like her and not be threatened by her...and had thrown her over for Bagoas. Even though she had thought they were still friends, Frank had left town without even a goodbye...and she hadn't heard from him since. He hadn't even sent her so much as a postcard. Guess Angelus had been right when he had described her as "forgettable".
Bagoas: She hadn't spent a lot of time with the guy, but he had seemed so sweet and friendly...but he had left the school.
Han: Though they had met under "interesting" circumstances and he had at first called her Doll, she had grown to like the Corellian teenager. He was fun, cute, amusing and he was very caring and friendly, too. Unfortunately, she hadn't seen him since she had bought the whiskey for Anakin (which she still needed to have delivered OMG) and he and Bagoas had gone away on their trip.
Anakin: She had enjoyed hanging out with Anakin and getting drunk with him that night. They both seemed to have theannoyance honor of being Chosen Ones and being told by councils what they could or couldn't do. (She was still convinced that the Jedi Council and the Watchers Council were run by the same uptight, stuffy Englishmen...wearing different costumes.) She had had a nice time just talking to him and she thought he was a sweetheart. Unfortunately, she hadn't really gotten a chance to drop by and say hi since right before the holidays.
Sam: Sam had been her roommate and she had thought they were getting along great. They had compared weapon preferences, warned each ther about evil badness they had run into in their lives. She had thought they were becoming good friends. Unfortunately, things had changed somewhere along the way (her sleeping in the East Attic a lot) and then Sam had moved out. They hadn't seen each other or spoken since then.
Maia and River: She wasn't even sure why they had stopped talking. They just...had.
Beka: God...Beka had been the one that had hurt the most. She had developed feelings for Beka...and she had thought that the other girl had felt the same way. Things seemed to be going fine...and then Beka had turned into a hamster. When she was changed back, she had completely ignored Buffy. Then, just like Frank, she had left the school and the town without even saying goodbye.
Yep. Eight new people, Eight new rejections. You would think she would have gotten used to this by now...but she hadn't. In Sunnydale, she had Willow and Xander...and sometimes Oz. She wasn't alone, even when she and her mother had left L.A. and moved to Sunnydale. Willow and Xander found out what she was...and instead of running away screaming, they had become her closest friends. Hell, sometimes, she even had Cordelia around. She missed Cordy, too. She and Cordy snarked at each other and sharpened their claws on each other, but there had been several times where Cordy had been at her back in a fight. When she had met Ms. Calendar, she had made friends with the perky and determined technopagan---until her hurt and betrayal and anger had screwed that up and gotten Giles' love killed. A small part of her wondered if Giles sending her here t be very alone was his own way of making her experience being completely alone and in some small way punishing her for Jenny's death.
Buffy finished setting up the final displays for the day that Jack had left instructions for her to arrange and went to flip the sign to "OPEN".
It was going to be another very long and lonely day for Buffy.
God, she was actually looking forward to classes starting on Monday. How tragic was that?
