Rose comes into the Perk and glances around for Jarod. She spots him over by a table and walks over.

Jarod stood and held a chair out for her. "Hi. Can I get you something to drink?"

"Hello, Jarod," Rose says, giving him a smile. "A mocha would be lovely, thanks."

"Right." He smiled back at her, in no real hurry to go to the counter. "You look very nice, by the way."

A delighted smile crosses her face and a light blush covers her cheeks. "Oh, thank you!"

Wow, that made her even prettier. He swallowed. Mocha, right. "I'll be right back with the drinks, then."

He went up to the counter and waited for the barista.

"Alright." Rose gives him a nod and watches him walk up to order the drinks.

Jarod returned a few moments later and placed the mocha in front of Rose. He had no idea what he ordered, so he took a sip. Hmm. Tasted like regular coffee.

He sat down across from her and fiddled with the edge of the lid. "I'm glad you decided to come. I had a really nice time talking with you the other night."

"Me too. I was really pleased when I got your message." She takes a small sip of her drink, testing the temperature. "It's been awhile since I was ever out on a date. I mean, I used to have a boyfriend back home in London, but we sort of drifted apart, and we never really went out much," Rose says nervously. "And now I'm babbling. Sorry."

He smiled. "No, you weren't. I like finding out things about you. Were you born in London?"

She gives him a smile, glad she's not running him off. "Yeah, lived there all my life. What about you?"

"I grew up in Delaware. A little town called Blue Cove." He really hoped she didn't ask what it was like, because he really didn't know. "What's your favorite thing about living in London?"

"I guess like any place you live, it's not that exciting. But the city is always busy, always somewhere to go if you want," says Rose, shrugging.

"Is there someplace in particular you like to go?" He sipped at his coffee.

Rose gets a bit of a nostalgic smile. "Some times I'd like go down by the river at night and just watch the lights and everything."

"That sounds really nice." He smiled back. Maybe a bit dopily. "Do you miss it, living here in Fandom?"

"Sort of, yeah," Rose replies, taking a sip of her coffee. "Real small place. You can wander around London for days and keep seeing different things."

Jarod nodded. "Do you have a favorite place here in Fandom yet? Or somewhere on campus, maybe?"

"I like the park. Gone for some walks there a few times. Nice to get away from the campus," replies Rose. "What's your favourite spot?"

"The park is nice," Jarod agreed. "My favorite spot? There's a place in the woods. A clearing. I spent Thanksgiving camping out there. Surrounded by trees, looking up at the stars. It was beautiful."

"Really? That sounds lovely. I've never been camping."

"Never?" Jarod was a bit surprised. "If you'd like to go sometime, I'd be happy to take you out there."

"Yeah? I'd like that." She takes a sip of her coffee to hide the silly smile spreading across her face.

"Great." He grinned. "So, what do you like to do in your spare time. For fun, I mean?"

"Just hang out, you know. There's always something going on in the dorms."

"I've heard that. I still can't quite believe that vampires and all those other things are real, but Parker swears that it's true, and she doesn't lie." Or, at least, not about that.

"Yeah, Angel, he's quite nice really. But it keeps things interesting, you know?" Rose fiddles with her coffee cup. "I've talked so much about myself, what about you?"

"Yes, it does, from what I've heard." He sipped at his coffee thoughtfully, then swallowed. "What about me?"

"I dunno, how'd you end up at the Fourth Sin? What do you do when you're not working?"

"I was looking for a job, and wandered in there by accident," he smiled at himself. "Becky tried to hire me for...a different job, but we got things straightened out. I live there now and pay them rent."

"When I'm not working? I spend time outside, I read a lot. Oh! I have a kitten."

"You live there, too? That must be... interesting," says Rose, laughing a little. "What's your kitten's name?"

"It is. You meet some of the most interesting people." He grinned, and sipped at his coffee. He chuckled. "She doesn't have a name yet. She likes the letter M, but none of the names I've offered so far have really made her answer the way she should."

Rose laughs, absolutely charmed with Jarod. She leans forward and rests her head in her hand. "How is she supposed to answer?"

"Turn her head, meow, scratch at my arm, whatever she wants." He shrugged. "Names are important--I just want to make sure she's got the one that's really hers. I can wait."

Rose traces the grain in the table and says, "Friend of mine, he called himself the Doctor. That's all. Just the Doctor. Names are funny like that."

"The Doctor? Was he a medical doctor, or did he just like the way it sounded?" Jarod watched Rose trace patterns on the table. She had good, strong hands. Capable.

Not that he'd once simmed a palm reader or anything.

Rose shakes her head and smiles a little. "Just the Doctor." She takes a sip of coffee. Best not to go down that path right now.

"Okay. So, do you know what you want to do when you graduate?"

"Not at all! Gosh, just like to get through school."

He grinned again, and leaned forward. "At that school? It sounds like that's enough of an accomplishment. If it makes you feel any better, I don't know what I want to do, either. Too many choices."

"Yeah. I don't want to be stuck doing one thing for the rest of my life, you know?"

"I know exactly what you mean, Rose." He took one last sip of coffee and lowered his cup to the table. "There's just too much to see to be in one place doing one thing forever."

"Yes, exactly," replies Rose, almost dreamily. She gives him a brilliant smile and grasps his hand. "I'm so glad I met you, Jarod."

Once he got over the shock at the personal contact he squeezed her hand back. "I'm glad I met you too, Rose."
