Sunday night at the Perk

She left her copy of Symposium at home and brought her laptop instead. With a latte and a giant muffin, when all else fails...use Sparknotes.

After what happened to Jack before, Parker was more than willing to pay a rickshaw to wait for her when she went to get coffee. It seemed a small price to pay. When she got in and saw C.J., she debated talking to her for a moment, then decided that if Jack didn't want to tell C.J.... that was Jack's problem.

"Hey, C.J. How's it going?"

"Just got back from New York. I'm a little wiped." Parker took a sip of her mochachino, and licked the foam off her lip. "Jake has his art show up, I'm in it... and Jack's fine. He went with us to New York."

Might as well start with the less explosive bombshell.

"Mmm. He's just about over getting the life scared out of him by a vampire."

"Nope. Right here in Fandom. Tuesday night." Parker paused, and wandered over to C.J.'s table. "He'd been drinking at Caritas, and when this little blonde chick asked him to walk her home, well. What was he supposed to do?"

"Archie and I were there when he came running into the lobby, all shaken and freaked."

"Not bitten. Just rattled. He figured you didn't know, since you didn't show to yell at him. So I dragged him to New York to give him a break." Parker shrugged. "I figured something happened, but to be honest, he didn't say what. Just that he didn't want to bother you. I thought it was about your accident."

Parker sighed. "Sounds like he was an idiot. And you had a right to be upset. But." She tapped on her coffee cup. "I think he misses you. And he won't care as long as you talk to him again." She took a sip of her drink. "But I thought maybe you needed some food for thought."

Parker shrugged, the smiled. "No problem. He's my friend. And I think he'd just being avoidant. I hope you talk to him soon." She grinned. "I need to get back and work on my homework for Professor Lyman. Jeez, he's making us work in that campaigning class."

Parker rolled her eyes, then grinned. "I already am. But the guy I have to run in Montana is a dink. Your buddy is a sadist, C.J." Parker wadded up her coffee cup. "Right, I'm gone. I'll see you this week, I hope. Hopefully at a celebratory Student Council Party."
