Ching Tai (NPC Chinese)

The atmosphere of Ching Tai was both glitzy and elegant, like most Chinese restaurants. Tasteful paintings clashed with the vibrant decor, yet somehow the combination worked.

Not that Sara particularly cared whether or not things were a crime against fashion and/or nature.

She waited in a small booth, playing idly with a set of chopsticks.

Grissom enters, and quickly walks over to the booth, spotting Sara immediately.

"Hi," he says, kissing her cheek before he takes off his jacket. "These are for you."

He hands her a small bouquet of daisies.

"Thanks for meeting me here," he says as he sits down, rubbing his hands to warm them up.

"Did you order a drink yet?"

"You didn't pick up any Mandarin when you were studying Gaelic?" he asks with a smirk, pausing for a moment to order a beer from the waiter and pick up his menu. "Although I'm sure you had no problem with 'Suffering Bastard'."

"You look lovely tonight, by the way."

He doesn't mention the fact his mother said pretty much the same thing in her letter, when she sent him the shirt.

"It is - thank you. Although I suspect you knew it was new because we did laundry last night, and not because of superhuman powers of observation."

"And I have never gone through your underwear drawer."

Shiftily.

"Exactly."

Oh, look, here comes the man to take their order!

He looks at her seriously.

"That really wasn't me."

It better not be Greg, or he is going to find himself on the wrong end of a fire ant infestation.

"I may have taken the black panties though," he says a little shyly. "The ones from, you know."

"If I knew I was going to spend the night, I would have worn something slightly less sketchy and old man-ish nicer," he says with a sigh. "I just didn't presume that I would be so lucky."

They work as a team wordlessly, Sara dividing up the sushi as Gil shovels out a few small portions of seafood and vegetables for both of them, and pulling the one meat dish over to his side of the table so that she doesn't smell it.

Before they are ready to dig in, Gil pours out some of his beer into a glass, and then lifts the glass. "A toast, perhaps? More exciting than grace with my mother," he smirks.

"Well, that works for me," he says after he's recovered a little bit, bringing his glass to hers with a smile.

He takes a shrimp from her plate, and winks before the smile fades slightly.

"I ran into CJ Cregg in the lounge today. She had an accident over break, but she tells me she's fine, and she seems to be in good health."

"She asked how our break was," he adds quickly, not wanting to upset Sara too much at dinner. She'd never admit she was upset, of course, but Gil still didn't understand the scope of Sara's compassion, only that it extended beyond his understanding.
