Galactica Point - mid-to-late Sunday morning

After surveying the disaster area that was the second floor common room, Cam and Kawalsky swung by Jeff the God of Biscuits bakery and then crossed over to the beach to hang out away from the hustle and bustle of the school.

"So," Kawalsky said, picking up a conversation they'd dropped up at the school. "What's the deal with all the sparring, man?"

"Is there some sort of written rule that I can show Vala?" Cameron asked hopefully. "Because I've been screwing up a lot lately and she's going all bezerk of the sparring thing too."

"I think they burned all the guy handbooks in the 70s with the bras so the women could tell us the rules and confuse us by changing them all the time." He finished off his bagel. "Just tell Vala you've got a lot of issues to work out, and it's better to vent it through sparring than it is to go out and pick a street fight or take it out on her or keep it bottled up until it kills you."

"Yeah, but she seems to think that's going to happen regardless. That one day I'm going to blow up and hurt someone badly," he frowned and looked down at his boots. "I'm kinda scared that she thinks I'll hurt her."

"Women." Kawalsky scratched the back of his head. "I dunno what to tell you, man. Guess you gotta convince her it's just a phase, or that you're not like that. I don't know *how*, and keeping the truth from her won't work. They always find out somehow and then it's our fault for lying to them. I guess you could put on a happy face and try to convince her it's all fun. The whole 'teenage boys like to throw their weight around, but it's all in good fun' thing."

"Yeah, but putting on a happy face would be lying." Cameron pointed out. "She knows what's going on. She knows about the dreams, she knows about my dad so..." He paused. "Okay, she doesn't know about my dad throwing a hissy fit over her and if it's up to me, she won't find out either."

"Ahhh." Awkward. "Your Dad isn't so keen on Vala and her..." He tried to think of the right word. "Flamboyance? As in, 'you're too young to know what you want, knuckle down and study hard and don't let the girl distract you, yadda yadda' right?"

"Exactly like that," Cameron nodded. "It's like he's the one trying to get into the Academy. I'm not going to throw away the Air Force because I love Vala."

"Adults underestimate teenagers. They think we can only handle one thing at a time, that we can't balance anything. They think they're doing the right thing, and they mean well, but...sometimes they get carried away. Someday you're gonna have to choose between the Air Force and Vala, at least as far as not being able to see her whenever you want, but while you can? Take both, man. Keep your head straight and go for what you want - the Academy and the blonde streak. You only get one chance at this place. Once it's gone, it's gone, and as weird and messed up as it is, I'm sure gonna miss it and the people here. Study hard, but live it up."

Cameron grinned and thumped Kawalsky on the back in a buddy non gay fashion. "You're the best of both worlds, man."
