They had talked. For several days, far into the morning, they had talked. All things were out on the table and the consensus was unanimous.

Just a few things to put in order, put in motion.

A sign appeared in the front window of Spike's. It was simple. Not easily misunderstood.

Business For Sale

They included the contact information for the lawyer they'd hired on the mainland. It would be handled remotely and the brothers wouldn't need to worry about it any longer.

After a couple of visits, then Kadaj made a call. One final thing in the morning...

Kiki, on her broom overhead, saw them go, and with a pang, she raised her hand in farewell. Would they see it? She had no idea. She hadn't known them well, at all, save for one or two memorable occasions, but she would miss them.

Watching the taillights fade away, she smiled after them.

"Thanks," she says aloud, "for the beer."
