Luke's Diner - All Day
Lunchtime
Logan pushed open the door to Luke's and held it for Veronica, sweeping his arm in an almost-gallant gesture.
Veronica chuckled as she entered and they found a table. "So you and Jake got a dorm room?" she asked.
Logan sighed heavily as he sat down. "Yes," he said. "Room 228. Can't imagine why a glorious palace like that would be empty."
"That's my old room," she said. "What's wrong with it?"
"Oh, right," he said. "Well, I'm not surprised you moved. It's miniscule! There's barely room for us to move in there."
She shrugged. "Chloe and I never had a problem. But if you think the room is too small, why didn't you guys ask for a suite or the empty attic room?"
"I did!" Logan said, throwing up his hands. "He was all grouchy or something. Said it would be good for Jake and me to live together, then gave us that room."
"Who was all grouchy?" she asked. Then a thought occurred to her. "And what did you and Jake do to piss him off?"
"The head in a tube," Logan said. "A.K.A. our Dean of Students. Jake was a little rude, yeah, but I didn't do anything! I even offered him a hundred bucks if he'd get me the North Attic."
"Logan? What exactly do you think a head in a tube is going to do with a hundred dollars?" she asked, trying desperately not to laugh.
He shrugged. "I don't know - scented bath salts? I bet that tube needs freshening up once in a while." He accepted a menu from the waiter and flipped it open. "Did you get the part where I'm sharing a room with Jake? And a bathroom with half the floor? Which, by the way, needs clearer gender markings."
Veronica sighed. "You and Jake have been living together since the beginning of the year, why is it suddenly a problem? He's nice." She peered at him over the top of her menu. "Clearer gender markings? Do I even want to know?"
"In a big house, with our own space, and we still had issues," Logan pointed out. "And I'm just saying that the bathrooms look a lot alike at seven a.m.," he grumbled.
Okay, now she laughed. "Are you telling me you were in the girls bathroom without me?" she teased.
"It was really early," he said defensively, but with a small smile. "How's your day been?"
"It's been fine. ACJ is my only class on Tuesdays. Didn't really do much after class before I met you to come here. I have to work tonight."
The waiter came over to take their orders. After he left she asked, "What have you been up to, besides moving? I haven't seen you since Saturday."
"I made a trip down to the house yesterday, but there wasn't much worth saving. Got some clothes, at least, but I've had to order replacements for most everything else. Also did some studying." He gave her a wry grin. "Campaigning is turning out to be a tough class."
She gave him a look of mock surprise. "You mean your teachers are actually expecting you to do work? You poor thing."
"Seriously!" he grinned. "So what's your toughest class?"
"I don't know," she said thoughtfully. "So far nothing has been as bad as Journalism last year, but it's still early in the semester. Sociology and ACJ really make me think though."
Logan nodded. "ACJ is a good class. Magical Theory's interesting, too. Plus, helpful information should I make a career of hunting vampires and demons." He flashes her an I'm-kind-of-kidding look.
She frowned slightly. "I sincerely hope you're kidding. Haven't you had enough of that?"

Lunchtime

The waiter brought their lunches then and she reluctantly took her hand back.
"Can we change the subject?" she asked. "I really don't want to think about that stuff."

Veronica pushed her food around on her plate with her fork.
"So, you really ended up in the girls bathroom this morning?" she asked, obviously trying to change the subject to something lighter. "I'm surprised I didn't hear shrieks and screams all the way in the attic."

"Well," Logan said. "You gotta understand I forgot my robe in my room."
Veronica's jaw dropped. She couldn't form words. And it was in no way because she was suddenly wishing she still lived on the second floor.
"I had a towel!" he added hastily. "Only," he sighed, "she has a really high pitched scream. So when I went to cover my ears..." He shrugged
and picked up a French fry.
"And how many other girls were there when this happened?" she managed. It was suddenly getting very warm in the diner.
"Maybe two or three?" He gave her a sheepish smile.
She shook her head. "I'm guessing you won't be making that mistake again. I think the best thing about moving in to the attic is the private bathroom."
"Yeah," Logan said. "I'm looking forward to that room transfer."
"You're going to try to move? Do you think it'll work?"
Logan shrugged. "Why wouldn't it?"
"Well, from what you said, it sounds like you and Jake made the Dean mad. He might not let you move just to prove a point." She paused, remembering something she'd heard on the radio and meant to ask Logan for clarification on. "Can I ask you a question?"
"Yeah, but he can't stay mad," Logan said with a wave of his hand. "What's the question?"
"Lee said on the radio that you invited Angel in to your house the other day, before it was destroyed. Was it true?"
Logan blinked. That was not the question he'd been expecting. "Yeah," he said.
Veronica took a deep breath. She sincerely hoped that what she was about to tell Logan wasn't going to start a fight. "I'm not sure how that
whole invitation thing works," she started, "but you should probably know that Angel was invited into your dorm room when Chloe and I lived there."
