Outside of the Perk - Thursday evening

Trevor Goodchild hovered over the desk in his laboratory, scribbling a note to himself as he added another vial of liquid to his petri dish. He was thankful that Freya had left him alone for the day, so he could try to get some work done. She was certainly a good assistant, but that was the limit to what he needed - an assistant, not someone to take care of him, as she often tried to do.

Of course, one of the down sides to sending her away was that she wasn't there to remind him to eat dinner. The sound and feeling of his stomach growling broke him out of his reverie, and he glanced at his watch, sighing as he realized it was far later in the evening than he'd thought.

After Trevor cleaned up, he pressed the main button on his transporter belt, fully expecting the room to shift back to his library like it was supposed to. Instead, the belt did nothing more than make a faint whirring noise. In retrospect, he probably shouldn't have pressed the button a second time, because that's when the belt let off a higher pitched noise, and shocked Trevor in the chest.

When he woke up, Trevor's first realization was that he was on his back. His second was that he was no longer in his laboratory. Or in the library. Or, judging from the sky above him, inside at all.

He sat up, but the rush of blood made his vision blurry, so he closed his eyes and leaned back against the outside wall of the nearest building. Peeking just a little, he realized he was in an alleyway. This? Was not good. But frankly, he was a little too dizzy to think about moving anywhere else for the moment.

[Yes, Trevor is now officially in town...and open for interaction from a certain lovely and helpful lady. *g*]

Dealing with the school board was far more draining than Zoe had expected, and she could almost hear a good, strong cup of coffee calling her name. But as she got closer to the Perk, her attention shifted from thoughts of caffeination, to noticing the man that was sitting up against a wall outside. He looked too disoriented for her to just ignore him, so she stopped in front of him and looked down. "Are you all right?" she asked.

"Figured as much." Zoe crouched down to get at the same eye level as the man, looking him over. "You hurt your head or something?"

Zoe laughed. "Yeah, maybe you should just keep doing that," she said. "Don't move; I'll go inside and get you some water."

"Washburn. Zoe Washburn." She crouched down again, almost sitting this time. "And you are?"

"Well, that's highly reassuring. But I don't know your name."

Zoe nodded, glad to see that he was being a little more helpful. "It's nice to meet you. If you don't mind my asking, how did you end up getting yourself hurt? Are you new to town?"

Oh boy. Zoe got the feeling that her answer wasn't going to go over very well. "You're in Fandom," she answered. "In Virginia." When Trevor didn't look any less confused, she continued. "In the United States. On Earththat-was."

"2006. What year did you think it is?"

Zoe made a little "hmph" noise, and finally just sat down next to Trevor. This was the closest she'd gotten to finding someone from her own time since she arrived in town. "I'm going to assume you weren't planning on ending up here, then?"
bigdamnprincipal: (i am intrigued)

"Yes," Zoe said simply. "I meant to come here, and I'm only from a century ahead of you. Now granted, I had specific instructions on how to do it, but..."
bigdamnprincipal: (i do know how to smile)

[personal profile] bigdamnprincipal 2006-02-17 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Zoe knew she shouldn't have laughed, but she ended up doing it anyway. "I'm sorry. It really bothers you that I don't recognize you, doesn't it?"
bigdamnprincipal: (i am skeptical)

Zoe's eyes widened as her senses went into "Warning, Crazy Person" mode, and it was only the eerily serious way in which Trevor spoke that kept her from making another snarky comment.

"I'm thinking our histories are a bit different," she said. "I'd probably remember learning about a dictator single leader running the whole government."

"I hate to break it to you, but insane is pretty much the name of the game around here." Zoe smiles, hoping that she's sounding at least slightly reassuring. "I'll tell you what. It's late, and you sound like you could use some rest. My apartment isn't far from here. Why don't we go back there, and you can get some sleep, and in the morning, we'll see if we can't figure out what happened."
bigdamnprincipal: (i am laughing at you)

Zoe gave Trevor another once-over and laughed. "Before I came here, I was in the military. I fought in a very ugly civil war, and over the course of it, I took down men who were twice my size without even being properly armed. You can't even sit up straight without looking pale, and when I say that you'll be resting at my place, I mean you'll be resting on my couch in your undergarments, while I keep all of your clothes for safekeeping to prevent you from leaving. I have little doubt that I will remain safe throughout the night."
