The fact that it didn't click earlier can perhaps be blamed on Nadia's lack of sleep. When it does click, though, it becomes immediately obvious, and Nadia starts giggling, too.
"Very green. Green is good."
She's going to have to stop by Empire to get some brownies before they run out.

Yeah, that's still not happening. In her desperate bid for coherency, Nadia has decided to go for a walk.
Seeing Marty sitting and staring at a pine tree might just be the cutest thing she's seen in days.
"Hey," she said softly, trying not to startle the poor, apparently arborphilic boy.

"Hey," he replied with an awed tone of voice.
no subject
Nope, wasn't seeing it.
Well, except that it was such a very small pine tree.
After a few moments, she leaned over slightly, not taking her eyes of the tree and whispered. "What are we staring at?"
no subject
"Pine tree."
He nods at Nadia like this is some kind of universal explanation of the universe.
He says nothing for a minute.
"It smells nice."
no subject
"Yeah, they do. Aren't you supposed to be at Empire right now?"
no subject
Then giggles.
"It's green too."
no subject
"Very green. Green is good."

"I'm going to call her Sharon," He says as though this explains everything.

When she finally does, she opens her mouth . . . and has absolutely no idea how to respond, so she stares at the tree a little bit longer.
Then: "Well, there are baby pine trees, aren't there? They have to come from somewhere,"
no subject
"I want that tree."

Marty leans over and pulls the tree out of the ground. Luckily all the roots come with it.
He then starts to wander off without saying goodbye to Nadia.

He could take care of himself, possibly even while stoned, right?
She heads down to the docks. If anyone would be willing to keep an eye on a stoned guy in love with a tree, it would be Artie.
