Cafe Fina, Tuesday

It had been, all-in-all, a rather invigorating walk.

Being British, Alfred views Paul Revere day as "The day of that noisy guy who screwed up our plans". Only in Alfred-ese.

Cafe Fina was open.

Dinner

Walter is here. No doubt the service will be excellent, if impersonal.

Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Pippi enters the Cafe with Mr. Neilson on her shoulder.

Walter smiles slightly and murmurs something to Wadsworth before coming to escort her to a table. "Good evening, Pippi."

He switched to Monkey to greet Mr. Neilson. //Good evening, esteemed one.//

By the time they reach the table, Wadsworth will have placed a plate of Swedish meatballs at Pippi's place.

"Hey." Pippi responded. "I thought I'd catch you as you got off work to study like ya asked... And stuff."

Mr. Neilson returned the bow and doffed his hat.

//Good evening whip-fingered-boy.// he says with an accent you somehow identify as posh. //You speak well.//

Pippi is not surprised at the meal waiting for her, but she is obviously pleased.

"Things have been slow. Give me a moment and I'll join you for something to eat."

Turning to Mr. Neilson he smiled. //Thank you. May I bring you food?//

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
//Do you do the bananas that you set on fire?// he responded hopefully.

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Bananas Foster?" he asked in English, glancing at Pippi for an okay.

//I would be happy to bring that for you.//

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Pippi rolled her eyes and waved her hand.

"Yeah, that's the dish. If he wants to make himself sick before his big teaching debue that's his problem."

//You think everything will make me sick...//

Pippi ignored him and took a bite of her dinner.

Walter smiled at the two of them and disappeared into the kitchen, returning momentarily with a rolling cart with a chafing dish that already had butter and brown sugar melting together.

While the sauce caramelized, he reached under the cart and pulled out his own meal, shepherds pie and put it on the table.

After adding banana liqueur to the butter and brown sugar, he peeled two bananas which somehow dropped already sliced pieces (http://www.gumbopages.com/food/dessert/ban-foster.html) out into the dish and added rum.

"This is the fun part." Wadsworth hovered nearby with a fire extinguisher while Walter dipped the heated liquor out of the chafing dish and poured it back in, setting it on fire to create a column of fire into the dish.

With a sprinkle of cinnamon on top to crackle orange in the blue flames, Walter sat down at his seat to wait for the fire go out and finally scoop some out over a very small quantity of ice cream for Mr. Neilson.

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Pippi nodded her approval over the quantity of ice cream because less was less likely to make the Monkey sick no matter what he said.

She also approved of any dish one sets on fire.

She tied a napkin around Mr. Neilson's neck as he hunkered down near his bowl and started to eat the warm Bananas Foster (Which, quite frankly is God's gift to man) with his hands... Because, well, monkey.

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-18 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Walter nodded and took a bite of his shepherd's pie. "Thank you both for coming down to help me with this. You can't do much better than getting a chance to study with the teacher." And taking his mind of things never hurt, either.

Pippi ate quietly and listened.

Mr. Neilson gave a small monkey nod.

//It's good practice for me also.// he said with mouth and hands full of Bananas Foster. //And practice makes perfect. Anything you would particularly like to talk about?//

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
//I had not thought of anything. Do you like living in this place?// Walter looked up and nodded to Wadsworth when he brought drinks for the table and a small bowl of water and a towel for Mr. Neilson when he finished.

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
//It's the most excitement we've had on land for certain.// Mr. Neilson seems to be talking very slowly.

//And... Candy rains from the sky.//

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Walter appreciated Mr. Neilson's consideration. He still wasn't sure how he'd managed to pick up as much of any of the languages they'd studied as he had.

//So does green... stuff and corn. But it is very interesting here. Always new things to look at and do.//

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

//Slime. Green slime.//

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
//Green slime// Walter repeated obediently. //Thank you. What should I call you? Your real name?// He rather doubted his mother had named him Mr. Neilson.

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
//My real name is the name you already know. But others of my kind call me...//

And here he makes an noise that you don't understand at all.

//Which is a joke name... The word for your kind is a reference to the fact that you cover yourselves. So others of my kind gave me a name that sounds a bit like "human" because I wear clothes. But it turns up at the end like the word for "monkey". So my name is "Humon".//

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting. Walter nodded and had some more of his dinner. //I understand.//

He looked over at Pippi, not wanting to exclude her. "How are your meatballs?"

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
//Delightful!// Pippi answered in monkey.

//How is your bowl of food for people that watch sheep?//

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
//Delicious. The person who cooks knows how I like it.// Which was the case with most things at Cafe Fina.

//The party the day after tomorrow will be fun. I asked my mentor about the flat layered thing cooker and he said yes.//

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
//Oh I'm so glad, I love layered food that is made flat and warm!//

Mr. Neilson is nothing if not amused at their translations.

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Mr. Neilson," //is there a word for// "sandwiches?"

He didn't want to talk to a monkey about sandwiches and get snickered at, now did he?

He stopped and went back over that thought...

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
//No, that's as good a name for them as anything.// Mr. Neilson answered licking his little monkey fingers.

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
//Pippi is smart to think of it.//

Walter looked at his empty dish and debated dessert. "Dessert, Pippi?"

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Mr. Neilson nodded, //Strong-Mother is good at thinking up names for things.//

Pippi's attention however is turned inward as she considers what she wants for dessert.

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
At which point Wadsworth wheeled over the dessert cart (http://www.pebblebeach.com/page.asp?id=1132) scroll to the bottom and Walter opted for a piece of dark chocolate cake.

//If you want something else, we can make it,// suggested Walter.

Wadsworth gave Walter a very odd look but said nothing.

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Pippi took a key lime pie with simmered blackberries.

//I would say that I would groom the tall man with the deep deep voice for bringing the sweets but that is not quite what I intend to say.//

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
//He would not understand you anyway. I do not think he speaks this language.//

Walter nodded at Wadsworth. "Thank you."

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
//Good point.//

"Yes, thank you very much."

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Wadsworth looked at the two kids and the monkey as though they were out of their minds - in an understated sort of way, of course.

Walter smirked up at him - in an understated sort of way, of course.

After Wadsworth left, he looked back to Pippi and Mr. Neilson and smiled.

"Thank you both for coming down to do this, both for studying and for sharing dinner."

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
"I always enjoy time to spend with my friends if I can." Pippi says poking him in the shoulder. "You have to make the most of every moment. Because nothing lasts forever."

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Walter nodded at that. "Even things that are supposed to." He might not have been cheerful about it, but it was something he'd learned in a job killing "immortals."

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Pippi nods and stands up, leaving a few gold coins on the table for the bill and Wadsworth's tip.

She pats Walter on the shoulder and then holds her arm out to him.

"Would you be so kind as to escort me home?" she asks with the hint of a Southern accent.

Re: Near the end of the Dinner shift

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
"It would be my pleasure," despite the fact that Pippi was one of his few close friends that he wouldn't worry about wandering Fandom alone after dark.

He took her arm and escorted her out of the restaurant.

Pippi would like the meatballs of her country.

cut back on the ice cream that comes with the Bananas Foster so he won't get sick. :D
