The extremely dignified butler doesn't bite.

The Baron is looking a bit confused as he walks into Cafe Fina. He was unaware that he had come back in the midst of the end of a semester so had spent most of the last few days making sure the animals all stayed where they were supposed to. Especially impressionable young ducks who wanted to fly back north or some such ridiculous notion.

"My good Baron, how good to see you!" Alfred said, setting a plate of Cajun Fried Catfish in front of him.

"Alfred!" the Baron looks as jubilant as an animated figurine of a cat can. "My dear friend, it's been too long." His whiskers were twitching. The fish smelled good. Then again, it always did.

"Far, far too long," Alfred replied. "Where have you been? Off on some case or some such?"

"Several of them," the Baron replied dryly. "Including a few rather uncomfortable days masquerading as a normal cat curled up at the foot of Haru's bed." He shuddered. "Not a stitch of clothes on and not a single cup of tea."

"Well, let me see if I can help you on the second one," Alfred said, pouring out a cuppa.

"Ah, a prince among men," the Baron sighed, taking a long drink before attacking his fish again. In a dignified manner, of course. "I have to admit, my dear friend, that I am finding it harder and harder to work from Fandom."

"Most of your cases are out of town work?" Alfred asked.

"Fandom seems particularily able to take care of itself." The Baron's tone was dry but fond. "My services seem to be wholey unnecessary."

"Perhaps you could expand your services?" Alfred asked. "Apply your skills towards being a detective for humans as well?"

The Baron gave him that look particular to cats, the one that usually comes after telling them to get off your face, please, you're trying to sleep, and right before they take a nap.

"I'm less than two feet tall, Alfred. I can think of no human who would seek out my help without exhausting all other options."

"I would imagine that, for a detective, your slight size would be quite useful. Slip in places no human could go, and your far less likely to be noticed, if only because of your natural stealth."

"I know that. You realise that. Your average human wouldn't." He shrugged. "I much prefer working with animals, anyways. I'm still needed. Just . . . elsewhere."

Alfred nodded. "Fair enough. Do you think you'll be leaving us, then?"

"I think I will. But at the moment I think the only person in Fandom who even remembers I'm here is you." He paused. "And perhaps that odd woman on the radio who insists on calling me 'Ferdinand'."

Alfred frowned a little. "You must go where the wind takes you, my friend. But I will miss you."

"I'll miss you, too, my friend," the Baron replied as the mun hates typing those words now *sobs*. "I'll probably be packing up the office in the next few days, casting the appropriate spells to move it back to where it was."

Alfred nodded. "Well, then. Before you leave, I would like it very much if you would dine with me. Perhaps on Wednesday or Thursday?"

"It would be my pleasure, my friend."

[[Because I love to cause myself angst, duh.]]

"Excellent. What time would be most appropriate for you?"

_{[[Well it's working! *sniffs*]]}

"Hmm, perhaps seven on Thursday?" That was he would be almost ready to depart Fandom.

"Excellent. I shall have to prepare something special for you."

After an amusing day of confusing new students, Walter is here. Nor does he bite. He's fairly sure he'd get threatened by someone for doing it.

In a hurry? The local blackmailing bastard is here for all your needs.
