Alfred himself opened up Cafe Fina on Wednesday. Because, as worried as he was about Walter, the boy seemed to be on the mend. And he did have a bussiness to run.

Nadia wasn't avoiding going back to the clinic at all . . . she just hadn't gone yet.

So she and Pup wandered their way into Cafe Fina for the dinner shift. If nothing else, she could get some food for Walter and Pippi to bring back with her, since she'd abandoned them all day.

"Ah, Miss Santos. I was not aware that you were ready to be out of the clinic. In fact," he said, as he appeared behind her. "I am fairly certain you should not be."

Nadia jumped slightly, and winced when the movement pulled at her ribs. "I checked out this morning. I'm fine." Okay, so wincing while she moved meant she wasn't "fine". "I'll heal."

"Well then, I'm glad I haven't taken everyone's dinners over," Alfred said. 'Yours would have gone to waste. Now, however, it can be enjoyed to its fullest." He led Nadia to a table.

Nadia sat down with a sigh. Walking around town hadn't really done much either for the fact that she was still hurting or the fact that she was still confused. Sitting helped at least half of that.

Pup plopped down at her feet and stared up at her, probably wondering why they weren't going back to Walter yet.

"Thanks. I can . . ." Come on, now, part of the plan was taking the food back to the clinic, don't wimp out now. "I can bring Walter and Pippi their food, if you want."

"Oh no, there's no need for that," Alfred said setting out a tray and bending over to scratch Pup behind the ears. "I can handle very easily myself. You must be very tired still."

She hadn't been expecting that. "But I--they--" She shut her mouth firmly. Alfred didn't seem like the sort one really flailed at. She always felt like she had to match his dignity. So she shrugged instead, looking at the table.

"But you what?" Alfred asked gently, pushing the covered tray towards her.

"I told him I'd go back," she said in a small voice. She looked at the tray and swallowed, her stomach suddenly about the size of a robin's egg.
