Aereopagitica, Thursday, 15 June

Giles opened the store and was working on checking every. Single. Book. He was making sure that the books had, on the inside, what they said they had on the outside.

Not that he was paranoid or anything.

River turned up with the beautiful book named *Kittens around the world'. She was sad to let it go, but she didn't want to upset Giles again. Besides, she had the symbols she liked neatly drawn in her diary. She wasn't going to tell him that.

"Good. Proty's still in place. How are you?" She grinned, putting the book on the counter.

"One of my paintings. Octopus," River explained. "You never answered my question," she added with a grin.

"Turtle on the other hand is moving around," River said nervously. "The fish I painted on Xander's door. It used to be next to the number sign, now it's below the handle." She pointed at the 'kitten book'. It had a pattern on it from that book.

"Only Turtle. And she's not leaving the door she's painted on," River said, wanting to be sure he didn't think it was a zoo of moving paintings. "You think it might be a problem?"

She hesitated for a moment. "Are curses difficult to make?" No. She still didn't believe in them. Not really.

River swallowed. "There are evil people. They'll come after me again."

"Oh," River said. This not believeing in magic was becoming a problem. "And how do they work? What do they do? How do I make them?" Her eyes narrowed.

River didn't want to point out that she still wasn't sure she believed in magic, as that seemed rude and pointless. She also thought it unwise to mention that she quite liked the idea of the 'burn them' protection. Perhaps there even was a 'blow them up' protection. She didn't ask this though. It was very nice of Giles to offer to help her like this. She nodded.

His last question made her frown, however. "I... don't know," she said, just realizing she didn't. "I just remember... blue hands. Cold eyes."
