Fandom Radio: Profits and Prophecy, 3-6 pm FST

This week, the broadcast doesn't begin with opera of any sort, Klingon or otherwise. Instead, it's The Rolling Stones version of "Money (That's What I Want)". He thought it would be a more proper introduction to his program.

"Welcome, faithful listeners, to the second week of Profits and Prophecy. This week marks the first of my special interviews. Joining me in the studio is Doctor Elliot Reid, a class act that is probably too much class to be teaching at the local school. But first up, we'll have a few musical selections, as selected by you, my audience. We begin today with a song called 'Dude Looks Like a Lady', by Aerosmith. Apparently this one goes out to John Crichton. Don't ask me why."

The song begins, and the show has started.

"Okay, call in your song requests, until I get sick of them, or I decide you all have horrible taste."

Quark smiled, not that the radio audience could see. "Welcome, Doctor Reid, to my humble show. Before I begin with the interview, do you have any opening statements you'd like to get out of the way?"

"Not really," Elliot said cheerily. "Um, my name is Elliot, I'm teaching first aid at the school for the summer, I'm a Virgo and I grew up in Connecticut. Oh, and I don't have superpowers. That's about it."

Quark chuckled. "Superpowers are overrated, unless you can turn water into latinum. Well, Doctor Reid, why don't we start off with an easy question. How'd you decide to come teach here in Fandom?"

Elliot's smile died. "It wasn't so much my -- I mean, not that I don't love everyone here, and god, my students are great, they really are -- but it wasn't exactly my choice. My bosses at my old hospital thought I could use some time doing something else, and this was the something else they chose."

Quark noticed the loss of smile and did his best to keep his guest happy. "Well, a change of scenery can always do someone a world of good. I find that in my experience, doctors are better when they don't get bored. So, what do you do to pass the hours you're not working?"

"I've been exploring the island a little," Elliot said. "I like walking in the nature preserve. I only teach one day a week, so sometimes I go into D.C. and shop or visit museums. Oh, and of course I keep in touch with my friends back home."

"Well, do you have anything you want to say to those friends back home? It's your chance to say something to them, in front of a smattering of listeners. Any special messages you feel need spreaded across the airwaves?"

Elliot covered the microphone with her hand. "Is this going on the Internet? Because I don't think this station reaches California."

"I try to reach the widest audience possible," Quark said. "So yes, it'll be on the internet."

"Okay!," Elliot said. "I guess ... I miss them, I love them all, and having a good time, wish they were here."

She hesitated. "Oh, and J.D.? I do not store my stethoscopes in the freezer, so please stop telling people that."

Quark chuckled. "You still have to use stethoscopes. Administer any leeches, lately?" He paused. "But back on the track of the interview, time for the four questions I plan on asking every guest on this show. Number one, what is your favorite word?"

"What would you use other than stethoscopes?" Elliot asked. "And yeah, actually. We use leeches sometimes after accidental amputation. Keeps the blood moving until thewound can start to heal."

She shook it off. "I think ... padiddle. You know, a car with one headlight? Padiddle."

"Good answer," Quark said with a smirk. "Question two, what's the thing you miss most about where you were before coming to Fandom?"

"I would have said being around other doctors," Elliot said. "But I got to know Hawkeye -- Dr. Pierce -- in, like, the last week, so that helps some. So I guess I'll go with really good Mexican food. You can't get it here at all."

"You can't find a good tube grub here, either," Quark said. "Question three, name one person in Fandom you wish you could fornicate with."

Elliot's blush was so vivid you could probably hear it through the radio. "You cannot ask that," she practically yelped. "I am so not answering."

"If you refuse to answer, I'm going to assume it's me," Quark said, smirking.

"Whatever gets you through the night," Elliot sniped. "Besides, there isn't anyone, okay?"

"Don't mean to make you uncomfortable," Quark said. "Moving on to the final question, number four. What is the one thing you want the people of Fandom to remember you for?"

"Excuse me, but what else was that question supposed to do but make me uncomfortable?" Elliot wondered aloud. "And ... I guess nmy fantasy is that someday some kid from my class will use the first aid stuff I taught them to save a life, and they'll think of me. That's kind of the ultimate payoff for a doctor."

"I'm sorry," Quark said. "I forgot how uptight hoo-mons can be about their intimacies. May I just say that I hope that your dream does pay off. The universe is always in need of more good doctors. Especially ones prettier than Julian Bashir."

"I'm not uptight," Elliot insisted, uptightly. "And thanks. So I guess now we're good for questions, if anyone has any?"

"I've done some prepwork, now it's time for you, the folks at home, to see if you want any more information from the kind doctor. Go ahead and get your phones ready."

"If you ask medical questions, I have to bill you," Elliot chimed in. It didn't sound like she was joking...

"I'd like to thank Doctor Reid again for joining us today. Now's the time where all you folks who want to ask me a question get a proper chance. But remember, time is latinum, so don't waste your own time by asking me stupid questions."
