The Perk, Early Sunday evening

Peter took a seat at the Perk and ordered a coffee while he waited for his interview subject. He looked over Artie's entry in the Fandom Town Directory and prepared himself for silliness. This guy was teaching a class about Dadaism, after all. He had to be at least slightly off his rocker.

[OOC: Thread between Peter and Artie is locked to them but good for broadcast. Other than that, open for all of your coffee-related needs.]

Artie arrived at precisely the handwaved time for the appointment, wearing a grey suit and a black turtleneck that were entirely inappropriate for the weather, and carrying a black briefcase.

"Not a problem, not a problem," Artie responded, giving Peter's hand a good, firm, salesman-y shake. "Always looking to give back to the community."

"Of course, of course," Artie took a seat, crossing his legs in a manly, powerful kind of way and folding his hands on the table. "Fire away, boy, fire away."

"My name is Artie," Artie said with a somewhat impatient nod, "and I came to Fandom from a town called 'Wellsville'. That's with four Ls."

Artie chuckled as though this was some clever joke. "Well, it certainly seemed like a good idea at the time. . . ." He stopped chuckling with a happy sigh. "I came here because I saw there was a need for my particular services, of course."

"Why, protection, of course." Artie swung his briefcase up onto the table. "Protection from dirt and from the elements." He started pulling out little strips of colored aluminum. "This island has a serious lack of good aluminum siding, which I provide at very reasonable prices."

"Yes, I am working on expanding my advertising, currently. But it is a very cost-effective way of making certain your abode remains attractive for as long as possible." Artie arranged the samples lovingly on the table.

". . . Da-da-ism?" Artie frowned for a moment, as though not quite certain if he were remembering something properly. "Well, it's a . . . subject that certainly . . . sounds interesting, isn't it?"

"Well, I'm sure they're very . . . applied. And Dadaism-ish." Artie recrossed his legs. "Though, this week, I will be giving a seminar on the advantages of siding over brick or wood facades."

"Well of course! It's the ultimate siding when it comes to versatility, and it never goes out of style. Why, it's even been said to actively repel dirt." Artie leaned back cheerfully. "One might even go so far as to say that aluminum is . . . pipe." He said this last word a little bit hesitantly, as though he wasn't entirely certain why he was saying it.

Artie picked up each of the siding samples and carefully replaced them in his briefcase before responding. "Well, the usual things, of course. The usual things. Indeed, I may stop by there, this evening. It would be much more secure a building with the proper siding."

"Well, I enjoy holding soirees in my home for clients, and I most certainly enjoy a good, American barbeque."

"Red!" said Artie confidently. "No, blue. Red, white and blue, like our great country's great flag!"

"No, thank you, boy. It has been a pleasure." Artie closed his briefcase with a snap. "And should you ever need a good wall covering, you know who to call."

Natalie entered the Perk, smiling softly at the familiar aroma of coffee. Behind the counter, she heard the intermittent hiss of steam from the espresso machine, as well as the gurgling of the regular coffee pots. She approached the counter and ordered a grande coffee, then added just a hint of cream and sugar. Not enough to make her sick, but enough to test her constitution a bit.

She took a seat and sipped the coffee experimentally. Her stomach offered a slight reaction, but didn't twist into knots. One small step for vampire kind, she thought.

Leaning back, Nat took a few more sips before pulling out her laptop. She settled in with a chat program and a web browser. Occasionally, she would take a sip of the coffee.
