Random mainland store, Tuesday late morning

Once inside the store, Aeryn lets John find the section on baby things. And it doesn't matter if they're shopping for someone else or not, she's just going to take her time actually stepping near anything.

In fact, she suggests, "Can't we just give a card?"

"Nope," he says and reaches for her hand to tug her towards the baby aisle. "Babies can't do anything with cards. We need toys and clothes and stuff."

"It isn't as if the baby's even going to know what any of it is," says Aeryn, who doesn't know what any of it is, either.

"Aeryn, the kid'll try and eat the card," he says and holds up a cute yellow one-sy. "Come on, isn't this just the cutest thing in the world?"

Aeryn blinks at him.

"It's cute!" John puts the one-sy up to his chest. "Come on, Aeryn, it's cute."

"It's clothing," she points out, still staring.

"For a baby!" And John takes out a matching blue outfit and tosses it over Aeryn's shoulder. "See, look how cute that is!"

She stares at it for a second before pulling it off her shoulder. "Okay, fine, let's just get these," she says, not even checking for things like size.

"Not even," John says and puts them back on the rack. "We have to browse. Let's go look at the toys!"

Aeryn sighs, wondering why just grabbing something at random and giving that isn't a viable option. "Sure. Let's."

As soon as there in the toy section, John starts tossing stuffed animals at her.

"Cuddly things for a baby!"

It's interesting how instead of catching them, she's just trying to deflect them. "Yes, they are," she says, looking a the ones at her feet.

"Aeryn..." John picks up the stuffed animals at her feet. "Holding these? Not gonna make you pregnant."

She glares a little. "Yes, I do know how that works," she tells him.

He laughs and pushes one of the stuffed animals into her hand.

"Now, do we want a rattle or a stuffed animal for the kid?"

"A rattle?" she asks, not sure what it would even be for.

"A rattle," he says and finds one somewhere down the aisle. He shakes it at her.

She frowns at it. "I couldn't imagine a more annoying toy," she says honestly.

"Okay," he says and tosses the rattle back. Of course, that's when his eyes alight on the pogo balls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolo_ball).

"Oh, cool!"

She watches with a raised eyebrow. "You expect a baby to be able to use that?"

"No, this is for me!" John happily bounces towards her on it, grinning hugely.

She shakes her head at him. A lot. "Can we get back to... browsing?"

"Sure," he says and bounces off the toy. But he keeps it in his hand. "See anything you like?"

"I have no idea, I don't even know what any of this is," she says, frowning at a picture on a box.

"Oooh." John picks up said box and looks at it. "This is good, honey! It's got fun stuff and learning stuff and it's big and green!"
