The Perk, 6/24, Saturday Evening
Tempe sat down with a list of names. She didn't believe in transcendence. It was a list of the students at Fandom High, and she was trying to remember which ones she'd met so far.
Every time she'd get to a name she recognized, she'd write it down in her notebook, and write a few notes next to it about any recent encounters and what the person looked like.
Basically, she was going to make it a mission to meet every student at Fandom. And remember who they were. One at a time, of course, because she still hated groups.
One could almost consider this anthropological research...
She sipped thoughtfully at her coconut banana latte, and massacred her strawberry muffin with her fork as she wrote.

Paying for his drink, he picked up the cup and turned, seeing Temperance. Alec walked over, introducing himself smoothly. "Hey, I'm Alec. You're one of the newer students too, right?"

She recovered quickly, though, and stuck out a hand for Alec to shake. "Yep. I'm Tempe. Nice to meet you, Alec."

"Sorry about the mess," she continued, moving her notebook and lists out of the way.

"Also, I'm going to make a list of people that I need to meet each week. I'm usually a bit of a loner, so if I set some goals to meet people, I figure that'll help."

"What do you think of our illustrious school so far?"

[ooc: sorry for the wait! got stuck on a phone call unexpectedly]

"Definitely weird. I mean, mummy attacks? Weetiny kitty plagues? A coffee pond? Not something you'd find at an ordinary school," Tempe replied. "But even so, the people, despite any species differences and the occasional set of magical powers or genius-level intelligence, all act so normally and friendly. No one even batted an eye when I said I'd travelled 12 years into the future to get here.
Tempe blushed at Alec's last comment. "Definitely. The boys are quite nice on the eyes as well, I have to say," was her comment, as she grinned shyly.
[OOC: No problem!]

"But they are definitely friendly," he said, grinning back at her comment. "So I know when you're from, but how about where?"
no subject
"Illinois. Just outside of Chicago," Tempe replied. "What about you?"
no subject
"I'm from Seattle," Alec told her. "I almost stopped in Chicago on my way here, but I figured I'd like to actually be here on the first day, so cut by instead."

Tempe ran a hand through her hair. "Never mind. I think I'm just intent on minimizing the embarrassment factor. If there's even a chance that I'll screw up, I probably will. After all, it wouldn't look very good if I ran up to Dean and threw my arms around him, thinking he was you, now would it?"
Her face turned beet red. "I really don't know why I just said that."
Her face still red, she continued. "I was on a plane, and then all of a sudden I was in Fandom. I don't know whether I was transported, or I was unconscious for the landing or what."

He sipped his coffee, frowning slightly. "Transported? Did you even expect to be here, when you woke up?"
no subject
"Honestly? No. I knew I was going to a private school, arranged by my grandfather, but I really don't think it was here," Tempe replied. "Actually, I pictured a bunch of stuck-up snobs in uniforms."
"When my grandfather told me he was getting me out of foster care and mentioned private school, he actually made it sound kind of boring. Apparently, he had an in though, because one of his friends was an alumni."

"I honestly don't know. I don't think so, though. Not unless there's a whole lot I don't know about my grandfather."
"Yes, I was in foster care," Tempe finally answered. "Only for about a year and a half. It was due to family complications." Family complications was an understatement, but really, how do you tell someone you just met that you were so unlovable that your parents took off and then your older brother abandoned you? That'd be something of a conversation killer.
