Luke's Diner Sunday 6/25

Tim had overslept but fortunately one of the ~~npc~~ other employees had opened the diner, and he wasn't in too much trouble, except for having gotten detention and might have to explain that to Luke later.

For now, he got to work.

Gwynn, knowing that Tim worked in the diner on Sundays, made her way to Luke's. She was very confused about the conversation with Nadia last night and thought he might be able to help prepare her for this Foooooootbaaaaaaaaaaal war with the place called Germany on Friday.

Tim's expression brightened when she walked in. "Hey there's a sight for tired eyes!"

The fact that Tim was happy to see her made her perk up and she grinned at him, very happy to see him.

"Hello, Tim."

"You have the greatest smile." Tim said. "How are you?"

"Preparing to go to war on Friday."

She looked very confused.

*blink* "What? Who's invading this time?"

"Germany."

Tim swallowed. "Germany's invading Fandom?! Like, Nazis and zepplins?" Walter was from the 1940's, was this something to do with his timeline?

Gwynn looked confused.

"I don't know what any of that means, but Nadia was all excited about this Argentina place fighting Germany on Friday and I think I volunteered to be part of her army so I think I'm going to attack this Germany person for this Argentina place."

Now Tim looked confused. "Argentina's at war with Germany?" Tim wasn't familiar enough with WWII to know if South American had gotten involved. Maybe that was something about her world she'd neglected to mention.

It's probably a good thing that Gwynn doesn't know the term "international incident" because she is coming very close to causing one.

She looked at Tim. "I don't know," she said honestly. "But Argentina just beat Mexico and are attacking Germany next." She sighed. "It seemed to all start after something to do with something called a Gooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllll!"

*facepalm*

"Is that what all that ruckus was last night?"

Gwynn looked at him seriously. "Nadia was very upset about this battle, but happy that Argentina had defeated the great dictatorship of Mexico that is commanded by Germany.

She sighed. "I wanted to let you know in case I don't make it."

"Gwynn I think there may be some misunderstanding here." Tim said. "If I heard correctly, as Nadia could be heard all the way down on the third floor, and possibly from further away, did she by any chance mention the word Football?"

Gwynn shook her head. "No, there was no mention of football. However, she did talk about the weapon fooooooooooooooootbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal a lot."

*snerk*

"That would be drunk soccar hooligan for Football." Tim explained. "It's not a war. Well, not a largescale one at any rate. It's a game, like basketball. Only with livelier fans apparently."

That might have been relief on her face, if she wasn't a soldier who was supposed to be willing to go away to fight.

"A... game? A small war is a game?"

"The war's more what goes on off the feild." Tim said. "In basketball, in the stands, there's sort of a picnic feeling. Emotions may run high, but there's not that much unpleasantness. In Football (a.k.a. Soccer) in the stands you can be sure that every ten minutes you are capable of taking the life of a fellow human being. Preferably a stranger, or supporter of the other team."

*blink*

"Hopefully the kids here won't take it that far."

Gwynn blinked as she processed this.

"So... there is no war or invasion coming here or that I need to go to? Nadia was inviting me to watch a game?"

Yes, there was definitely relief in her voice.

"That would seem to be the case yes." tim smiled. Though, given the nature of fandom perhaps he couldn't rule it out completely.

Gwynn sighed. "I don't understand some of the things people do here. But Nadia was certainly excited."

Tim smiled. "Soccer fans do tend to get really excited yes. Hopefully no one's going to form roving bands of hooligans, who beat fans of rival teams up."

he took her hand and squeezed it. "But I do appreciate you coming to tell me. Trust me though, if Germany invaded Fandom, I wouldn't be a civilian. I doubt most of the people here would be."
