Aereopagitica: Friday [6-30]

Lana opened the store a little late today. She'd been out wandering till all hours of the morning and it had seemed to keep Whitney a little at bay. But she'd be lucky if she didn't fall asleep at the counter today.

Silent Bob wandered in, sans a still-mopey Jay, and tried not to look too dreadfully out of place.

Silent Bob gestured at the empty Jay-shaped space beside him with his thumb, then pulled an exaggerated sad face. A series of complex gestures describing curves and little walking fingers conveyed that the source of the sadness was a girl. Bob patted the non-Jay on the back before gesturing around at the books with an expression of perplexion as to their helpfulness in this matter.

Silent Bob nodded. The girl (indicated with the same curvy gesture) had left (walking fingers) making Jay sad (sad face and a point next to him) which made (Bob pointed to himself) sad as well. He offered a hopeful grin that she'd be able to help.

Silent Bob rolled his eyes and made a vaguely obscene gesture, then smiled apologetically. He hadn't meant to be quite so rude in getting his point across.

Silent Bob glanced at the humour section. Not precisely Jay's cup of tea. Self-help would probably be better, as it would be Bob doing all of the reading.

He nodded, looking away from the humour.

Bob frowned, considering. He pointed towards the section on being happier about oneself. If there was anything the king of fag jokes and insulting others needed, it was a self-image pick-me-up. Bob was intuitive like that.

Bob took them, flipping them over to read the backs thoroughly. He appreciated the non-girlyness, grinning cheerfully at Lana before he took them. After a moment he selected one and handed the other back to her with another smile.

Bob considered. He didn't do much reading of anything that didn't involve centrefolds, but he was supposed to be somewhat of a teacher now. He gave her an enquiring look as he mimed filming something.

Silent Bob's eyes lit up and he descended on the books almost gleefully. After several minutes of rummaging and rifling he pulled out a book on documentaries. He pointed to the book, then in the general direction of the school, then back at himself with a proud grin.

Silent Bob nodded emphatically, his eyes expressing some of his lostness of this past summer semester. He patted the book gratefully.

Bob nodded with a grin, trailing after her in the general direction of the cash and digging in his pocket, hoping he had enough to pay for them. This workshop thing was pro bono, and their particular line of work was big with the irregular pay.

Silent Bob dug into his pocket and came up with a number of crumpled bills, some loose change, and a dime bag. The last he hurried stuffed back in with an apologetic smile and counted out the remainder. Just enough.

Bob smiled, nodded, and exited. Hopefully he could drag Jay out of this funk without resorting to fluffy kittens and John Hughes.
