The park, Wednesday evening

Daisy was determined not to become a regular at Caritas, and there was nothing interesting on TV tonight but only because she forgot about a new season of Project Runway starting, OMG!, so she was walking through the park with an umbrella, scowling at the scattered rain.

Rain should mean traffic accidents and floods and things like that that made the life of a reaper more interesting.

Here, it seemed to just mean water falling from the sky.

Surely something interesting would happen soon. . . .

"Uh huh. And do you find yourself in the clinic often?"

"Never since that... thing. No more clinic for me," Joxer said. "No wound can't be healed by time and a good splint, you know?"

"What's your name, kid?" She'd need to know in case she ever came across it on a post-it.

"Joxer," he repeated. "Joxer the Mighty? Warrior of all?"

Right. She hadn't really been paying attention to the parts that weren't hinting towards a quick death.

"Nice to meet you, Joxer. There a last name with that?"

Joxer shook his head. "We didn't really have those in my time."

Oh lord, don't tell her he was already dead. "And what time would that be?"

"Ancient Greece?" Joxer said. "Not sure on the specifics."

Daisy blinked. "Just how old are you?"

"Seventeen," Joxer said.

"Then what are you doing here?"

"My dad sent me to school," Joxer said. "One of the gods helped."

"Riiiiight. Well, I hope you're enjoying yourself here, Joxer."

Joxer nodded. "You too... Nice... blonde lady."

"Daisy. Daisy Adair."

Joxer smiled, goofily. "Like the flower?"

"Exactly."

Joxer pointed back at the school. "I should probably head back, before my cabinmates start to worry needlessly."

"But you're a famous warrior. Why should they worry?"

"Needless worrying seems to be a trend around here," Joxer said. "Me, I just forge on ahead. Or, in this case, backwards, since I'm going to my bed, which isn't really ahead of me, but is behind me."

"Well, I won't keep you then. Do let me know if you're going to go to battle, though,"

"I will," Joxer said. "You have a good evening, Miss Daisy."

He then wandered off.
