The Perk - Late Tuesday Afternoon

Caffeine was good. Caffeine was great. Caffeine deserved a song and dance number. However, Kawalsky was all song and danced out, so he was just going to get some caffeine, eat his muffin and save everyone's ears from a rendition of Taylor the Latte ~~Boy~~ Girl.

Molly was up at the counter. "You don't sell regular ice cream at all?" she asked incredulously. She made a face when the counter person offered her an iced latte.

"What about fruit smoothies?" Another shake of the head from the counter person. Molly sighed. "Alright, give me a lemonade then. Thanks."

After paying for her lemonade, Molly turned and saw Charlie. "Charlie!" she said and walked over to where he was sitting. "I'm glad I ran into you. I was going to try and call you tonight."

"Molly Molly Molly!" Charlie greeted. "I usually don't answer the phone, so good thing you caught me, huh?" He gesutred to a chair. "Wanna sit down?"

"Yes," Molly said and readily took a seat. "I was just going to head back to school, but now I can chat to you in the lovely air conditioning." She grinned before taking a nice long drink of her lemonade.

"Air conditioning is good," Kawalsky agreed. "So what's up? Besides the temperature."

Molly looked around to make sure no one was close by. She opened her mouth to speak, but then stopped and looked under the table too. Grinning, she straightened up again. "Sorry, I need to ask you about something you told me was secret and I also don't want the radio to ruin the surprise I'm planning."

She leaned closer across the table so she could keep her voice low. "That thing we did for you, me and Sam and Cam, I think it's safe to say that you have some sort of connections with the military or something, right?"

Kawalsky sipped at his coffee again. "I've got some friends, yeah." He misunderstood the point of the conversation. "You in some kind of trouble, Molly?"

Molly laughed. "No, nothing like that," she said. "It's Cam's birthday this month and I have an idea for a present that I have no way of getting on my own."

Yeah, he'd totally forgotten about Cam's birthday. Thank goodness for female friends who remembered this stuff. Kawalsky scratched at his ear. "Ohhh okay. What've you got in mind?"

Molly looked a little unsure. "A ride along in an F-16?" She looked at Charlie hopefully, but then continued in a rush. "I looked it up on the internet and you pretty much have to know someone or be, like, a celebrity or a local hero or something. So, I was hoping that maybe you would know someone who knew someone who maybe knew someone who could get Cam a ride in one at an airbase nearby."

Charlie rubbed the back of his head and frowned in thought. "It's doable. I'm just thinking how it's doable. When's his birthday? This'll take some time."

"The 24th," Molly said, her excitement growing. "He said he doesn't want a party, but he should have something fun to do for his birthday."

"Well, he'd sure get a kick out of it. I'll have to make some phone calls. I'll let you know next week?"

Molly smiled brightly. "Okay. Thank you, Charlie."

"Thanks for reminding me. I would've forgot until the day before and Amazon.com is probably sick of me asking for fast delivery. We'll work something good out."

"This is going to be the best present ever!" Molly said happily. "If it works out, of course."

"Well, I know a guy who owes me a favor and he knows some guys that owe him favors, so all we gotta do is find someone in charge and a pilot with a two seater..." He trailed off. "It's gonna be a lot of work, but I'll pull out all the stops."

Now Molly felt kind of guilty. "I don't suppose any of them would need any heavy lifting done?"

Charlie grinned. "Probably, but most of them aren't used to people having special powers. But if something comes up, I'll know where to come to ask. Don't worry, something will work out. It'll be worth it for Cam."

Molly nodded. "I hope it works out. We'll be his best friends forever if we can get this for him. And, yeah. I owe you a favor now so just let me know if you need any feats of strength."

"You got it." He rubbed his hands together. "This'll be fun."

Molly grinned. "I hope so."
