Wednesday morning, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes

Fred paced the shop nervously, his eyes on the crate of slinkies that the "Ups" man had delivered on Monday afternoon. He knew the spell to animate them, but how to incorporate the word so they didn't all start slinking right away...

Fred heard a quiet slinking at his feet and looked down. Puck, his permanently animated test-slinky, was nudging him gently on the side of his foot, a small green rubber ball next to it. Fred smiled, petted the slinky, and tossed the ball. The slinky wagged excitedly and slinked off to fetch it's ball.

Now back to the problem of the crate of slinkies...

Pippi, fresh out of her Stealth workshop, was trying to be stealthy. So she stepped very carefully and softly on the mat, in an effort to trick it.

Molly snickered as she followed behind Pippi.

"Mmph," groaned the mat.

Fred smiled.

"Good afternoon, ladies," he said.

Slightly disappointed but encouraged by the lack of yelling, Pippi grinned and waved to Fred.

"Good afternoon!" she said stepping off the mat.

"Hi, Pippi," said Fred. "How are you this afternoon?"

Molly stepped over the mat and gave Fred a grin and a wave.

The mat groans again, but in a softer, feebler kind of way.

"Hey, Molly," he said.

Puck the Slinky slinked around the corner, curious at who had just come in.

"We're great Fred thanks. Oh! Hello again little guy!"

Puck wags happily and slinks toward Pippi, pushing the green ball in front of it.

"EEEEE! It's so cute!" Molly said before looking back to Fred with an apologetic grin.

"How did everything else go?" she asked, getting to the business at hand.

"It's been a bit of a challenge," Fred admitted, "but I finally got it figured out this morning."

"That's great!" Pippi said clapping her hands and nudging the green ball across the room with her toe.

"Are they ready?"

Puck scurried after the ball as fast as it is possible for a slinky to slink.

Fred grinned.

"Actually, that was the hard part," he said. "I have no problem animating them or getting them to stop, but that's because I have my wand. I figured out that in order for you to set them off, one of you needs to have some magical ability, which I can provide. So, which one of you wants to say the magic phrase?"

Pippi looked at Molly.

"I'll arm wrestle ya for it." she grinned.

Fred chuckled.

[ooc: I'm at work right now and I have to run to a meeting, but I should be back on in about 3 hours ::shudder:: can we continue later this evening?]

Molly laughed. "How about we flip a coin?" she asked Pippi. "We could be here a while if we decide to arm wrestle and I have a workshop soon."

Pippi laughed.

"Good point!" she said. "That's okay, you can do it."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, totally."

"Okay." Molly turned to Fred. "I guess it's me then," she said with a grin.

"Okay," said Fred. "Here's what you have to do--I'm going to put the spell on the slinkies, then I'm going to start the spell on you. I'll tap you on the top of your head with my wand once, then you say the words, and then I'll tap you again, and the spell is complete. After that, all you have to do is say the words and the slinkies will be animated. Okay?"

Molly nodded eagerly. "Okay. What words did you end up using?"

Pippi bounced on the balls of her feet.

This is gonna be soooo coool!

"Well, you guys liked 'Fifth Floor Common Room Rulez', right?" Fred asked.

"Just 'Fifth Floor Rules', if that's okay," Molly said with a nod.

Fred nodded.

"Okay. Here we go." Fred turned to the slinkies and tapped them. He didn't say anything because ~~Fred's mun isn't as inventive as JK Rowling in thinking up spells~~ he was very practiced in using nonverbal spells. Then he turned to Molly, tapped her on the head with his wand, and gestured for her to say the words.

"Fifth floor rules," she said promptly.

Fred smiled and tapped Molly on the head again. The crate of slinkies rattled faintly, then went still again.

"Excellent," Fred said, "now the spell is complete."

"Woo hoo!"

Fred grinned.

"We should probably get going then," Molly said. "I don't want to be late for my workshop."

"Can I just ask one favor before you go then?" Fred asked. "Make sure to tell anyone who asks where you got the help."

"Oh most certainly!"

"Then thank you ladies, and good luck," said Fred, and he bowed them out of the shop.
