Nights like tonight made Chloe really miss having two roommates to help her make sure her clothes and hair were perfect. Not that she was overly focused on how she looked or anything. This was just some dancing as payment for Cameron writing a story for her, and nothing more. Really.

She walked into the club and spotted Cameron, and suddenly felt a little bit better about having taken the time to ~~poke herself in the eye with beauty products~~ try to look nice, because he certainly looked good.

As soon as he noticed Chloe, Cameron moved away from the wall he had been leaning against.

"Wow," he greeted as he took a moment to look her up and down. "I knew you'd blow me away."

So much for not blushing like an idiot within the first five minutes, she thought. "Thanks," she said, twirling a little for his amusement. "You clean up way better than I imagined."

"Glad to not disappoint," he chuckled. "Uh, I wasn't sure about bringing flowers or chocolates to a club, so I got you something else."

He said as he got out a small wrapped gift (http://moleskine.stores.yahoo.net/plainpocket.html), wanting to do that now so he wouldn't forget later.

Chloe's eyebrows raised a little as she took the gift, and she couldn't help the little squealing noise she made when she unwrapped it. "Oh, thank you! This is much more useful than flowers, any day."

"I'm told it's what Hemingway used too," Cameron said with a grin, glad that she was liking it. "So take it as a hint that I'm expecting great things from you. No pressure, of course."

"Oh geez, no pressure there at all." Chloe laughed. "But I'm expecting great things from you once you're done at the Academy, so I guess it goes both ways."

"With the exception that your great things should end up in a bookstore and mine most likely locked away somewhere in a secret file," he replied and held out an arm. "Want to go explore?"

"Oooh, I like secret files. They always intrigue me in ways that they probably shouldn't," Chloe teased, taking his arm. "Yes, let's explore."

"Intrigue you in a way that you know you'll get in trouble?" Cameron asked as he led them into the club. It was pretty crowded for a Sunday and apparently they had a live band performing. Who would have thought?

"Yeah. You'd think that after the first few times my reporter instincts got me into trouble, I would have learned to stop, but I really haven't." She grinned as she looked around. This had been an excellent idea.

"Nah, I'd already pegged you down for an adrenaline junkie the minute I saw you," Cameron smirked at her and motioned towards the bar. "Want to get something to drink first?"

"Sure," Chloe replied, smirking at him. "So, you think you've got me pegged?"

"Actually," he said slowly as they walked to the bar. There might be a bounce in his step which may or may not be coinciding with the rhythm of the song that was being played. "My grandma always says that you should never think you know a woman completely; There's always some secret left, so I'm going to go with 'no'."

Chloe laughed. "Well, your grandma was an extremely wise woman, and you are a wise young man for listening to her advice."

"She still is," Cameron smiled. "I tend to shift through her advice. She can be a bit... fanatical at times."

He picked out a table to the side, well out of the way of the traffic going to the bar but with a view on the dance floor. "What can I get you to drink?"

"Fanatical?" Chloe asked, intrigued. She followed him to the table and thought for a moment. "I could really just go for a soda."

"She's a bit of a bible thumper," he explained and motioned to the bar. "I'll just be a sec, okay?"

Chloe nodded in understanding. "Ooooh, gotcha. If you're not back in ten minutes, I'll send out a search party."

"Yes, ma'am," he saluted her before heading off to the bar.

He reappeared a couple of minutes later, putting two sodas down on the table as he slid into his seat. "Did I miss anything interesting?"

"Ooh, thank you," she said, taking her soda as she bounced along to the music. "And no, not really. Just a few interesting glances going back and forth across the room. It's always amusing to watch people try to pick each other up."

"Did someone try to pick you up already?" Cameron asked, looking around. "Because then I might have to start scowling. I haven't even gotten my dance yet."

Chloe snickered quietly. "No, no one's tried to pick me up. I think your tall and broad-shouldered presence has scared off any other suitors, for which I am quite thankful."

"I'm just glad I can be of use," he chuckled and picked up his glass to take a drink. "Just let me know whenever you need me to look burly at someone."

"Oh, I definitely will now," Chloe said. "I think that would be interesting to watch. And of course, if you need me to scare off any girls, I can totally do that in return."
