Jude should have done the brave thing and marched over to his girlfriend's room and swept her off her feet and made everything right again.

Instead, he took the convenient excuse and ran off to work.

Clark was craving a good old fashioned cheese burger.

"Hey, dude," Jude greeted him slightly more mellowly than usual. "What can I get ya?"

"I would like a cheeseburger and fries please." Clark said.

"Sure, comin' right up." Not the most enthusiastic of service, but polite nonetheless.

Clark remembered this young man as being a bit more energetic. Maybe it was only when he was on his skateboard? "Everything okay?"

Jude gave him a mellow smile. "Nah, bro, nothin' to worry about."

Clark didn't look convinced but didn't press the issue. "Okay." he said in that concerned adult tone that adults get sometimes.

Jude looked sheepish. He was pretty vulnerable against that tone, being the kind of boy who only lied to teachers if it was for other people's benefits, and never to his own parents.

"Girl troubles," he muttered as he set the heaping plate in front of him.

Clark nodded understandingly. "Sadly it doesn't get any easier with age."
