JGOB, Sunday Brunch

The troopers were confused. Wasn't it Willy Wonka's turn this week? They had been looking forward to their chocolatey brunch, but the brunch was over at JGOB instead. There were many a frown under closed helmets as they picked up a pastry of choice - some with chocolate but it wasn't the same.

A lone trooper was seen trying to drown his sorrows by staring into a glass of milk. The other troopers didn't know what to do. Heartbreak wasn't something they were programmed to deal with, so they just let him be.

((Brunch is open! No OCD because the trooper is woeful.))

Blair sat down at a table and held up his newspaper, with two eyeholes cut out of it, in front of him. He ate a muffin and watched the troopers carefully.

Most of the troopers seemed unaware that they were being watched and the lone, sad trooper in the corner didn't seem to care about anything but his glass of milk which was lacking an 'approved by Wonka' sticker.

After a while, though, one trooper seemed to notice Blair in a corner and stopped trying to cram his pastry through his helmet.

Blair was watching the trooper sitting at the table and didn't immediately notice the attention. When he finally tilted his newspaper in that direction he jumped nervously and started whistling.

Nonchalantly, of course.

The trooper frowned. Not that Blair would notice and moved towards him. "Sir?"

Blair jumped again and lowered the newspaper slowly. "Oh, hello sir! I didn't see you there as I was reading my newspaper and enjoying my breakfast. Totally."

The trooper tilted his head, eyeing Blair's paper. "It would appear that your paper has holes in it, sir."

Blair blinked and wondered why nobody seemed to notice that in the movies. "Really?" He held up the paper slowly and stared at the trooper through the holes.

"Huh."

The trooper nodded and leaned down to look back at Blair through the holes.

"Do you want me to get you a new copy, sir?"

"Um...t-t-that'd be great, man." Blair blinked at the trooper through the eyeholes and lowered the paper to the table slowly.

"I'll see what I can do, sir," the trooper said helpfully and disappeared outside of the shop for a moment. He returned shortly after with a fresh, holeless paper and handed it to Blair.

Blair facepalmed in the time it took for the trooper to step out outside but smiled at him when he came back inside. This situation could be salvaged. He just needed a pair of scissors to cut new holes.</strike. "Thanks, man. I'm Blair Sandburg." He held out his hand for a shake.

"If that is all, sir?" the trooper asked politely "We got in an urgent call that needs to be taken care of."

"That's all, man. Thanks." Blair nodded. "You go take care of that call."

Blair did not bounce excitedly or start gathering up his muffin and backpack in preparation for following the trooper. Except for the part where he totally did.

The trooper went to retrieve the woeful trooper at the table. Keeping a hand on his shoulder, they both walked out and headed back to the station to regroup and see what their orders were.

Blair waited until the troopers went out the door and then grabbed his muffin and non-holey newspaper and followed.

Darth Vader couldn't eat, so he really couldn't explain what he was doing at J, GOB.

At least until he saw the troopers.

He loitered in the doorway, breathing, and waited to be noticed.

Two troopers were heading back outside. One of them was carrying a croissant and the other something with raisins. The halted as the tall black figure was obstructing the doorway.

"Excuse me, sir," the croissant holding troopers said politely.

The raisin loving one leaned in and might have whispered something about Vader's armour being shiny.

Vader was displeased. There wasn't nearly enough respect.

"Who is your commander, trooper?" he barked.

The troopers straightened up some more, surprised by Vader's tone as usually only Tex or Appo spoke to them like that. "Commander Appo and Sheriff Tex, sir. Do you wish to speak to either of them?"

Commander Appo? He had died years ago.

"Commander Appo," Vader said aloud. "Yes. I demand to speak with him immediately. Tell him Lord Vader commands it."

Now to see if it was the same Commander Appo...

The troopers looked at each other confused. "Yes, sir," the raisin loving one finally said and took a step back to raise Appo on the comms.

A little while later, Appo arrived outside of the store. This better had be good because they were in the middle of a search and rescue. "Sir? Is there anything the matter?"

"I am Lord Vader," Vader replied, clearly expecting to be recognized.

Commander Appo blinked and if he hadn't been wearing his helmet, he would have looked very much like he didn't recognise Vader. "A pleasure meeting you, Lord Vader. Is there anything the Fandom Troopers can do for you?"

Different Commander Appo, then.

"No, nothing, Commander," Vader replied. "I'm new to the area and getting my bearings. You looked familiar."

Zuko looked at the two troopers standing behind Vader wearing almost identical armour to his. "I can see why, sir. Was there anything else?"

Vader shook his head, then paused. "You've never been to the Jedi Temple?"

Not that that still haunted him some nights. Not at all.

"There are no Jedi Temples on Earth, sir," Appo pointed out. "The 501st was brought here instead of following the other troops to serve the Republic."

[sith_happened]

"The Republic is gone, Commander," Vader intoned. "There's an Empire now."

He spun on his heel, cape sweeping out behind him, and stalked off down the street.

There was a moment of unease as Appo initially had been trained to be loyal to the Republic and defend it. Then Tex had come to get them and their priorities had changed.

"You two," he barked at the troopers. "Go join the search."

The troopers quickly skittered off to the station.
