Aereopagtica: Friday [9-8]

Lana got to the store early today. She'd woken up early also. She'd just been too excited about this afternoon's picnic with Jim to rest well. She got the store ready to open cheerfully and any one who wandered in just might catch her humming happily to herself.

Matilda stopped in to the bookstore and was pleasently surprised to see Lana. "Hello Lana! I haven't seen you in a long time."

"Hey, Matilda," Lana said with a smile. "I'm surprised it took you this long to find the bookstore! Fandom keeping you busy, huh?"

"Yeah. Well I guess I usually enjoy being busy though. I want out exploring today though."

"That's great," Lana said. "Fandom may be small, but it has some wonderful places to see and visit."

"It seems like it. I'm having a nice day out." She looks around at the shelves. "Any book you'd suggest? I've read quite a lot so maybe you can find me something interesting that's not well known?"

"Hmmm..." Lana thought for a moment. "Perhaps some Sharon Shinn? Or Gael Baudino? They're kind of a mix of science fiction and fantasy - but not swords and sorcery-ish. And excellent writing. Very thought-provoking."

Lana led the way over and pointed out some of her favorites.

"So, how are you settling into Fandom," she asked.

Matilda picks up two that seem interesting after skimming a page and looking at the back. "I'm doing quite well. Everyone here is so nice and everyone is really interesting too! Sometimes I almost find myself wishing I wasn't so in love with studying because I want to go out a little more."

"Look at it as a different kind of studying. You'll meet people here that for you and I would otherwise only exist in books. If you go out and meet them and talk to them and learn about their times and worlds and cultures, you're getting first hand learning knowledge that you may never have an opportunity to get otherwise!"

"I'm looking for books about Greek Mythology, in particular anything regarding someone named Xena."

"Xena..." Lana blinked. "Well, I can show you where the Greek mythology is and you can check the index."

She led the way over to the appropriate section. "I'm not sure if we have anything specifically about her, but it will be here if we do."

"The Mythology/History class seems to be primarily about her." Billy explained. "And, I'd never heard of her before. And I thought I knew of pretty much all the mythological charectors."

"I can't say I'm familiar with her," Lana admitted, "But I'd imagine if she exists she's in one of these books.

"Honestly, so many people in Fandom are from different universes or timelines... Xena might not even exist in this one."

Billy paused for a moment. "You know that never even occured to me. Say how'd you react to all this when you first showed up? Aliens, Demons, time travelers..."

Waiting for Jim

Everything was all set to go. The morning couldn't end soon enough for Lana.

Jim arrived ten minutes early and loitered while he waited for her shift to end, sneaking smiles at her whenever he caught her eye.

Lana couldn't help smiling every time she caught him watching her. She finally got everything set and went over to see him.

"Done," she said cheerfully. "Ready for a picnic on the beach?"
