The Park - Evening

It's a beautiful night in Fandom. Nice enough that a young couple decided to explore the park and see what it had to offer.

Jamie turned to Marie and gave her a smile. "You look nice tonight."

"Thanks," Marie said. "I'm glad it's starting to get cooler. I don't feel so weird being all covered up."

Jamie snickered. "So the covering up thing is getting easier for you?"

"Yeah," Marie admitted. "I'm not as worried about accidentally bumping into someone in the halls or anything. Cally wanted to hug me last night though and I wasn't entirely comfortable with that."

"How do you feel about the rest of it?" Jamie asked seriously. "About maybe never touching someone again?"

"I don't know," Marie said. "Forever is a long time. And if I've learned anything in the last few months its that anything is possible."

"You mean like how two crazy kids from different dimensions can end up at a school like this?" Jamie asked reaching for her hand. "Yeah. I get that."

Marie let him take her hand with no hesitation. He was probably the only person who could get away with that right now.

"How much do you know about the Rogue in your dimensions powers?" she asked.

"Just general things," Jamie replied. "No skin contact. If she has enough contact with another person she'll absorb those powers permanently."

He gave her a grin. "She can also fly."

"Really?" Marie said. "That's kind of cool."

Then she sighed. It had been a few weeks and she still hadn't exactly figured out a way to bring this up, but she was pretty sure the whole boyfriend/girlfriend thing meant she was supposed to be honest with Jamie.

"Did you know that it's not just powers she absorbs?"

Jamie was quiet for a few moments before nodding a little. "Yeah. I know. She also gets memories too."

He gave her a sidelong glance. "So I guess that means..."

Marie nodded. "Yeah. I got a bunch of your memories," she confirmed. "It was pretty confusing at first to remember things I knew I hadn't done. But once things settled down, I realized what happened."

"Soooo how much do you remember?" Jamie asked a little nervously.

"Seems like it's just the big stuff," Marie said, squeezing his hand. "Can I ask you something though?"

"Sure," Jamie replied still a little nervous. "What about?"

It took her a minute to figure out exactly how she wanted to word her question. "I know your parents kept you isolated growing up," Marie finally said. "Are you afraid of something like that happening again? Is that why you do the things you do for attention?"

"Something like that," Jamie said quietly squeezing Marie's hand. "Being on the farm all alone was... yeah. Actually it's exactly like that."

"You don't have to worry about that here, you know," Marie said. "The people here aren't like your parents. Or my parents."

"I know. My parents meant well and when they died I just... kept where I was. I didn't know anything else," Jamie said tilting his head at Marie. "So I'm guessing you have the memory of me tearing up New York?"

Marie nodded. "And the memories of you watching yourself get shot. And fighting some big, green thing." She paused. "And the lab."

Jamie frowns at that. "Not exactly the best memories to get from me I guess."

"There's other stuff in there, too," Marie told him. "It's not all bad. Those are just the ones that were most vivid and stuck out the most."

"Including the one where Guido gave me an atomic wedgie?" Jamie blurted out.

Marie laughed. "That sounds familiar," she admitted.

"So even with all that stuff in your head, you still want to go out with me?"

"Jamie, I put you in a coma the first time you kissed me," Marie said. "And you still want to go out with me. Why would those things make me change my mind about you?"
