The Park, Saturday Evening

After finishing up with his Parents Weekend duties up at the school, Aziraphale found himself with a little time to kill before heading over to the clinic with Wilson's dinner. He also realized that it had been an awfully long time since he'd gone down for a quiet sit in the park. And therefore, the park was exactly where he headed.

Sadly the ducks were gone South for the winter, but he might have been hiding a scone in his pocket for any squirrels that happened to be about. Or hungry mortals, for that matter.

Saturday Evening...Meeting Prue

After leaving Victor's hotel room, Phoebe had called Prue's room and asked her to meet her in the Park. She really needed to talk to her eldest sister --- and even moreso now.

She sat down on her favorite bench under her favorite tree. Later, she would go find Cole and maybe bother her Sibs, but right now, she needed some sister time.

She was a little afraid that it wasn't going to go well.

Prue showed up at the park after getting a call from her sister. She hoped Phoebe would finally talk to her about whatever it is she was hiding. "Hey Phoebe."

Phoebe looked relieved to see her big sister.

"I need to talk to you... about a lot of things, actually. They're important."

"I knew there were still things you weren't telling us," Prue said, managing to give her sister a hug.

Phoebe hugged her. "There... I need you to promise not to tell Grams what I'm about to tell you," she said quietly. "I want to be the one to tell her, I just can't right now."

Prue nodded. "I figured there were things you weren't talking about because of Grams."

"I wanted to tell you so many times, Prue, I really did. There have been so maany times that I wished you had been here with Piper and I."

"I'm beginning to wish I was here, too. Maybe I could have protected you two," Prue said, suddenly feeling guilty for not being there more for her sisters.

Prue smiled. "I guess you picked that up with your empathy, huh?"

"Dad's here." She said without preamble. "I saw him earlier."

Prue narrowed her eyes. "What?! He's here? Right now?"

Phoebe nodded. "Somehow the school tracked him down and sent him an invite."

"It is a strange place to merely stand around in the night, my friend," the Marquis said, addressing Aziraphale.

Turning his head with a smile, Aziraphale replied, "After a day full of activity at the school, I expect was looking for a bit outdoors. The park's always been one of my favorite places, anyway. Although it isn't the same without the ducks." He gestured toward the pond.

"Are you in town to see one of our students?"

"That I am," the Marquis said. "The lady Door is in my charge, so to speak."

Aziraphale had heard the name on the nightly radio broadcasts, but hadn't actually met Door personally. "I don't believe we're acquainted, although I've heard her mentioned. I'm afraid I don't know many of the students who aren't in my own class."

He held out his hand to the stranger. "I'm Aziraphale. I teach the Prophecy class."

"Prophecy?" The Marquis looked intrigued. He didn't shake Aziraphale's hand, but instead bowed with a flourish. "The Marquis de Carabas, at your service."

"A pleasure to meet you, Marquis," Aziraphale replied, with a nod. "Quite. Prophecy. Our regular class covers theory, history, and methodology, while the lab allows the students to actually work with the various techniques we study. I've discovered there are rather a number of students here with an interest in the subject."

"Telling the future is something I try to avoid," the Marquis said. "I instead try to do my best to secure a good one by working in the present."

"Well, honestly my own interest lies rather more in the writings about prophecy, than actually looking into the future myself. But we deal quite a bit with the idea of interpretation, and it appears that there are several students here with a natural ability for divination. So I like to believe that I'm giving them a chance to learn how to manage their abilities, and how to interpret the results."

Aziraphale smiled, and nodded at the Marquis' words. "I think that's a fine way to look at it. One of the things I hope my students will take away from the class is an understanding that knowing the future doesn't give you a free pass from your responsibilities to the present."

"Quite so," the Marquis said. "And given that I am confident in that this is a present without a Mister Croup or a Mister Vandemar, I feel much more responsible for having brought m'lady here."

Aziraphale's eyebrows went up at the mention of those particular names. "You're acquainted with the gentlemen, then? They were actually here at one time, but they left a good year ago, and I haven't seen them since my own return. A good thing indeed, I think, that they decided to move on. Has the young lady had difficulties with them?"

"Croup and Vandemar were here?" the Marquis said, suddenly deadly serious.

"For a brief period, yes." Aziraphale paused a moment, thinking back to his first months in Fandom. "I arrived here...a year ago August. The gentlemen were here during my early days in town, but disappeared after a few months. Then I was called away on an assignment at the beginning of the year, and returned this past August. I don't believe, during my time away however, that they ever reappeared. I rather expect that's the sort of thing that would be talked about."
