The Fourth Sin, Tuesday Night

Jarod, had done a little bit of research into Halloween and had spent the day preparing for the holiday. He set out a very large bowl of chocolate, as well as little bottles of massage oil, feathers and little containers of body paint. Anything else that was offered to trick or treaters was strictly a business deal between the trick or treater and the offerer.

"I think it would have to look like a muzzle," she says thoughtfully. "What does that say about me?"

"That you think your brain can talk?" Jarod asked poking at the chocolate.

"Well, it might tink the purse needs talking to," she shrugs.

"Can you just put your brain in your purse?"

"But there might be lint," she says, frowning.

"Would it be able to hear through a bag? Or you could dust it, first." He suggested.

"But then what happens when it demands that you only tote it around in like, a Fendi or something? I wouldn't trust my brain not to give me attitude," she says.

"You could say no? I mean, you wouldn't want your brain to be spoiled, right?"

"What if it gives me those Precious Moments eyes, though?"

"What are Precious Moments?" Jarod hadn't had time to stop in at Hallmark. "And why would your brain give you their eyes? Like in tupperware?"

"Precious Moments are these creepy little religious figures and drawings who are all cute while like, a lion tugs at their diaper or something. But they have these huge eyes like they're ready to cry any second," she says, wrinkling her nose. "And I never considered the tupperware thing, but now I am, thanks."

He shuddered theatrically. Or maybe vibrated from the sugar, it was hard to tell. "Glad I could help."

Jaye shakes her head, trying not to smile. "Have I monopolized enough of your time yet?"

"My time's pretty fluid," he smiled at her, "but you don't have to stay and talk about eyeballs in tupperware if you don't want to. I promise not to be offended."

"But we didn't even get to the question of with or without formaldehyde yet," she says, grinning. "I should be heading back, though. I haven't even thought about egging anything yet. That's wrong."

And now he had a mental image of Jaye throwing scrambled eggs at people, which he supposed wasn't outside the realm of possibility. "Have a good night, Jaye. Don't forget to let your brain out to wander now and then."

"Of course. It needs the air," she says, taking a handful of candy before leaving the rest there. "Enjoy the sugar rush."

And then she's out the door.
