Chilly Boulder Ice Creamery - Thursday afternoon

It was a little bit chilly today, but Molly and Dawn decided that they wanted ice cream anyway. Besides, if they ate it inside, the temperature wouldn't matter.

Molly went into the shop and paused, turning back slightly to whisper to Dawn. "It's a different person working than last time. Do you think we could get away with the sample thing again?"

Dawn glanced around the shop, then whispered back, "I don't know. Do you see our pictures hanging anywhere, with a sign that says 'Do Not Feed'? Because that could be a clue."

Molly snickered, but looked around anyway. "Nope. I say we go for it."

"Right," Dawn went up to the counter and started studying the flavors like they held the secrets to the universe. "Oooh, pumpkin. And is that apple pie?"

"Oh, apple pie!" Molly said, peering into the case. She looked up at the guy working behind the counter and grinned at him. "May I try a sample of that please?"

"Me too," Dawn bounced a little, flashing him her biggest smile. He promptly handed over samples to both of them, blushing a little when he looked at Molly.

Molly noticed the blush and gave Dawn a small surprised look, but grinned at him again as she took her sample. "Thank you," she said and tried the ice cream.

"Mmmm, that's good. Not sure if I'd like a whole cone of it though." She looked back at the guy behind the counter. "Can I try the pumpkin?"

"And can I try the...hmmm....chocolate covered cherry?"

"Oh, that sounds good too," Molly said as he handed over the spoons with their samples. "Thank you." She grinned at him again to see if the blushing thing happened again.

It did. Dawn noticed and elbowed Molly as she tasted her ice cream. It was good, but not quite seasonal. "Is that...eggnog?" Dawn made a face. "Hmm. Um, oooh, chocolate peppermint, please?"

Now it was Molly's turn to blush. She quickly looked back to the selection of ice creams. "Oh! Gingerbread! Can I try that next?" He smiled at her and handed over their new requests.

"Gingerbread? Oooh! I'll try that next, please?" Dawn gave him puppy dog eyes, then a small hopeful smile.

He turned to look at Dawn and blushed again. "Sure thing," he said before turning back to Molly to see what she would request.

"I'd like to try the eggnog," Molly told him and accepted her sample with another small grin.

Dawn decided this worked much better with the boy behind the counter. She was getting a little bit full, though.

Molly made a disappointed a face. "I think the flavors are starting to blend together. I could hardly taste that at all. I think I'll just go with one scoop of the gingerbread in a waffle cone please."

"And I'll take a scoop of pumpkin in a dish please," Dawn decided. "It's neater."

The guy behind the counter looked a little bit disappointed that the sample game was ending, but he quickly scooped up their orders for them. He even gave them each an extra scoop. "Shhh," he said. "Don't tell."

Molly accepted her cone with another grin and paid, giving him a good tip. "Thank you."

Dawn paid, including a nice tip, then took her ice cream and a stack of napkins. "Yes, thank you."

Molly turned away from the counter and looked around for a place to sit. "By the window where we can see people or at the back where it might not be as chilly?"

Dawn looked down at her sweater. "Um, people? Unless you're cold, and then we can sit in the back."

"Nope. I'm fine," Molly said and headed over to sit at a table by the front window.

Dawn sat down across from Molly. "So, you and Ray were very cute trick or treating." Yep, smooth and subtle, that was Dawn.

Molly smiled and blushed a little. "My new boyfriend makes a pretty Mountie," she said dreamily.

"He does. And you don't have to worry about eternal damnation," Dawn giggled, "which is probably a plus."

Molly laughed. "Yeah, that was completely unfair of Sam. No priest should look that good."

"I know, right?" Dawn nodded enthusiastically, wondering if he'd saved the costume. "Thank god it wasn't a real priest outfit, or I'd have big, big, big, big problems."
