The Park - Friday Evening

Marie was enjoying the drop in temperature. It meant that her gloves and being covered head to toe didn't stick out as much as they had when her mutation first surfaced.

Of course, taking a moonlit stroll through the park with her boyfriend made those thoughts pretty moot anyway.

Jamie flipped up the collar of his overcoat to cover his neck. "Are you warm enough?"

Marie smiled. "The upside to my mutation," she said. "I wonder if that's why I've always wanted to go to Alaska. Maybe it was some subconscious thing because I'd have to be covered up all the time."

"Maybe," Jamie replied, "I wouldn't know really since I've had my powers since birth which is a little different from most mutants."

"I can't imagine growing up that way," Marie admitted, reaching for his hand. "Especially with a mutation like mine."

Jamie slipped his hand into hers, interwining their fingers with each other. "Well... I didn't figure out what I was until later. I was just a kid in that stupid suit. But you already know that story."

Marie nodded. "Yeah. It's weird. I've got memories of your childhood and Zuko's childhood and they're all mixed up with my own memories. Sometimes it's hard to keep everything straight."

Jamie smiled. "Yeah. I can understand that. It was weird for me at first to absorb a duplicate's memory. What's difficult for me is that with all the dupes I've absorbed my memory tends to be... nonlinear. It's kind of a jumbled mess. Is it like that for you?"

"Yeah, kind of," Marie said. "I think the difference is that since they're not actually my memories, they're not really on the surface after a few days. But something will trigger me and seem familiar and it'll take me a while to figure out why and then I'll realize it's because it's not my memory."

Jamie gave Marie's hand a gentle squeeze. "Sounds a little creepy at times to have something up there in your head. Are you dealing with it okay? I might be able to pull in a favor and have one of the telepaths from Xavier's help you somehow."

Marie squeezed back. "No, I think I'm handling it okay. The first day or two after each time was kind of disorienting, but it's all sort of faded to the background now. But thank you."

"You know you do have an advantage over most girls," Jamie said nudging her with his elbows. "I'd think most of them would love to get inside thier boyfriend's head and now what they are thinking."

Laughing, Marie shook her head. "You've never held anything back from me, as far as I can tell. And I trust you. I don't need to read your mind."

"Oh yeah? Can you guess what I'm thinking now?"

"Hmmm," Marie stopped walking and studied him for a moment. "That you love me and want to kiss me," she guessed.

"Well I was going to say that two plus two equals four," Jamie grinned, "But that might have been lurking around in my subconscious"

Marie giggled and pulled the sheer scarf out from under the warmer scarf she was wearing.

Jamie smiled as he slipped his arms around Marie's waist. "See? Now you're really reading my mind."

"Must be because I know you so well," Marie teased, pulling the scarf up and leaning forward to give Jamie a gentle kiss.

"Either that," Jamie said softly, "Or you are a very smart woman."

And with that said he gently brushed his lips against the scarf.

"I'm so glad we figured out that trick," Marie told him.

"It's a good trick," Jamie agreed hugging her tight. "Because you never know when your boyfriend may want to-"

Oh look. He's leaning in for another kiss.

Marie was more than happy to oblige.

She sighed happily. "You really are amazing, you know that, right?"

"No! Really?" Jamie said acting astonished. "Tell me more."

"There aren't a lot of guys who would have the patience to be so careful with their girlfriends," Marie told him, though she rolled her eyes at his request.

Jamie smiled and tucked a lock of hair behind Marie's ear. "Well you're pretty special. And by special I mean really cool and sweet. Especially with that Southern accent that just kind of entraces you into... Okay. You better stop me now."
