The Perk [Tuesday, after class] CAS

Mac arrived early for the CAS meeting, and settled herself down in a chair in a corner of the perk. She has her laptop with her, shockingly enough, and is happily looking up coffee related movie clips on the internet.

The sign-in sheet is on the table in front of her along with a bowl of chocolate covered espresso beans for people to help themselves.

After having spent the past week drinking all the tea his body could handle, Sam was letting himself enjoy some nice, strong coffee instead while he read like a great big dork.

It had taken some doing, but Dean finally tracked his brother down at the Perk. He got himself a coffee then sat down at Sammy's table. "So whatcha reading?" he said by way of greeting.

Sam snapped his head up when he heard Dean sit down, feeling a little embarrassed that he hadn't noticed him when he first came in. "1984," he said, showing the cover to Dean. "What are you doing here?"

Dean held up his coffee. "What does anyone come to the Perk for?"

"Hey, knowing you, there could be a much more sinister reason aside from just needing some coffee," Sam said with a smirk.

"You wound me," Dean said. "I don't do everything with an ulterior motive. And dude, do you ever read anything fun and light?"

"The comic books I read are pretty light," Sam replied defensively. "And just because something has a plot and some SAT-level writing doesn't mean it can't be fun to read too."

"1984. Isn't that the book that's all 'Big Brother is watching you'?"

"Okay, so maybe this book isn't exactly fun...wait, how did you know that?"

Dean gave him a look. "Dude, you're not the only one in the family who can know stuff."

"I know. You know lots of stuff," Sam said, backtracking quickly. "Just not usually book stuff, that's all."

"It was a movie too," Dean muttered.

"Well...you knew that and I didn't. So that still counts for something."

"I didn't like it much. There was this scene with rats..." Dean shuddered. "And the whole evil overlord as big brother thing..."

"Yeah, if that stuff is half as creepy in the movie as it is in the book, I don't think I'll be watching it any time soon," Sam replied.

"Speaking of time soon, it's Thanksgiving in two days," Dean said leadingly.

Sam snickered. "I know when Thanksgiving is, Dean. Especially since it means Dawn's going home."

"Yeah, I guess she'd want to spend it with her family, huh? Though hey, you're spending it with your family too so that's something right?"

"Yeah, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to miss her. And I don't think just being in the same place as your family counts in the same way," Sam added. "Now that you mention it, what are we doing for Thanksgiving?"

"Jaye's organising Thanksgiving here for... pretty much everyone who's not leaving. We're all invited," Dean said. "So it's going to be more than just being in the same place. Though, in my book, that goes a long way towards counting too."

"That does go a long way," Sam admitted, thinking about the past few holidays that were spent without Dean. "And that actually sounds like it might be kind of fun."

"Great!" Dean said with a wide grin. "I told Jaye we'd help with the cooking so we're going to make a bunch of pies tomorrow."

Sam gave Dean a worried look. "And by 'we' you meant just you, right?"

"Did somebody make me King when I wasn't looking?" Dean asked. "No, that wasn't a royal we. That was a Sam and Dean we."

"You want me to help you bake," Sam said, disbelieving. "Are you trying to kill people? Because that's what might happen if I'm involved with the cooking."

"Which argument would hold a lot more water if I haven't actually eaten pies you made," Dean pointed out helpfully. "Not dead."

"But those were really simple pies," Sam protested. "And your stomach is a lot stronger than some of the people we might be eating with."

"Most of these people eat the cafeteria food."

Sam realized he had no argument there, because at least most of his cooking attempts hadn't turned out that badly. "You're really trusting me to help you cook?"

"Yeah, I'm really trusting you." He smiled slightly at his brother. "We going to have to do this dance every time I ask you to help me cook?"

"Possibly," Sam replied. "Although we wouldn't have to if you'd ever stop asking."

"If you didn't want to help me cook, you shouldn't have learned in the first place," Dean told him. Not that he wouldn't have browbeated Sammy into helping anyway, at least in the tasks he's browbeated Alec into helping with.

Sam rolled his eyes. "I'll keep that lesson in mind for the future. And I guess I have no choice but to help you tomorrow. Just know that I'm making you do the complicated stuff."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. You're the one who wanted Thanksgiving to be more than just being in the same place. Well, baking pies is part of that more."

"I was thinking more along the lines of spending time together in ways that didn't involve raw ingredients, but I guess that just shows how differently our brains work."

"I'm sure we'll have some time to veg out together and watch football after we eat," Dean assured him. "That's what Thanksgiving's all about isn't it? Food, football and family?"

"So I've heard." Sam laughed. "You are so lucky I can't say no to you."
