Aereopagitica: Wednesday [11/22]
Lana opened Aereopagitica feeling particularly down. It was over two weeks now and still no sign that Jim was going to come back.
She sure wasn't feeling like she had much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

He'd made a quick stop at the Perk for a Christmas Coffee - apparently it was cinnammon flavoured - which came in a cheery red and white cup, which he placed on the counter in front of Lana with a smile. "Christmas cheer? You look like you could use some."
[ooc: and I'm just heading to work, so I'll be AFK for about an hour.]

She was pretty much totally unconvincing.

"I've tried, I've really tried, Jack." She looked up at him as if begging for him to believe her. "Tried so hard to make myself believe he'd be back. But no one ever has and..."
She shook her head. "I shouldn't let myself care."

She turned away. "I didn't want you to see me like this. It's why I've been avoiding you."

She looked up at him. "I want to hug you, but I'm afraid. I really like you and I don't want you to go away or disappear too."

She shook her head. "It doesn't matter. Nothing matters. It's just the way my life is, I guess. I just hate being so stupid. Every time I tell myself not to get involved, but I do and I think maybe this time will be different, but it never is."
She brought a hand up to wipe her eyes. "Even you told me that I shouldn't, that I should just enjoy the moment and not get attached, but I'm too stupid to listen."

Part of her wished she could just lean in and kiss him, let him distract her for a while. She knew he'd be good enough to make her forget. But the rest of her knew he'd just gently pull away and look at her with compassion and that would kill her.
Instead, she stepped back, folding her arms around herself again. "I don't know how great it is to be Lana. But I don't have a whole lot of choice."

She was still holding herself tightly. "And thank you, but I don't know why you'd like me even now that you know I'm not that fun person you met, that I'm just a mess."

She bit her lip, then took a step in closer and rested her head on his chest. "I'm sorry. You're being so good to me and you're helping, really you are. I just... I want him to come back. I want him to be the one who's different, who'll prove that sometimes people come back, and I know that I just have to let go and be okay with being alone again."
"I'll be okay, really I will."

"But I'm sure you didn't come out here just to have me cry all over you. So to what do I owe the pleasure of your company?"
