Our Lady of Fandom; Friday [ 11/24 ]

Rosette and Chrono had had a very ~~handwavily~~ busy Thanksgiving off the island. It would have been inconceivable to do what she had wanted to do, visit the Seventh Bell, all the way in Michigan, see if it was even still there, with what money, time and resources they had, so instead they were scouting out orphanages that were accepting holiday donations and she spent a great deal of time discovering all the libraries closed for the holidays so she couldn't check up on California newspapers from the '20s.

Although there was still one day left for the food drive, Rosette started to pack up the donations in boxes today, so there's be less work to do tomorrow, before planning to deliver the goods on Sunday. The sign out in front of the church advertised the food drive, but also had a little blurb about volunteers for aid delivering the donations on Sunday.

Billy had ~~handwavily~~ bought some stuff for to donate. And here he come to donate it.

Chrono's half buried behind a stack of masking tape rolls. Rosette really wanted to make sure those boxes were sealed up something good.

Clink clink clink.

El stepped quietly into the church and set his heavy black guitar case to the side.

Rosette was too busy grumbling to herself as she accomplished getting more tape on her fingers than on the box, so she didn't notice the entrance; however, Chrono did, red eyes peeking up over the wall of masking tape and keeping an eye on the quiet man.

El walked up to the cross and knelt in front of it for a moment in silent prayer before he stood up and walked towards the confessional.

As soon as the confessional door was closed behind him, the little light to let the congregation know someone was there turned on, all part of the system to help ensure the confessor's anonymity. "Hey," Chrono said, nudging Rosette's foot with his and then nodding toward the confessional. "We've got a visitor."

"Huh?" Rosette looked up. "But confessionals are supposed to be on Mondays," she said with a pout, then she sighed, trying to pull the ball of tape off her fingers, then trying to shake it off. "Well, I supoose not everyone sins on schedual. Here," Rosette stood up and held her hand out to Chrono, "get this for me."

He extracted the ball of tape, which was now, of course, stuck to his hands.

Rosette's boots clinked too as she made her way down the aisle and into her side of the confessional, sitting quietly and asking, as though uncertain as to the trustworthiness of the 'occupied' light, "Hello?"

"Forgive me, Sister, for I have sinned and am going to sin a great deal more tonight."

Rosette took a moment to herself to roll this over in her head and to assume a more religious sort of mind-set to deal with this. She frowned. "If you wish to be forgiven for the sins you have not yet done, then why don't you just not do them?"

"Because there is no other choice," El said. "To kill is a terrible thing, but to let someone innocent that you care about die is an even worse thing."

Rosette was quiet for another long moment, turning her face toward the screen with surprise.

"That...that would be a worse sin, yes," she said, finally, quietly.

"I am going to go save a student," El said. "And in the process, I expect that I will have to kill a number of gunmen for the drug cartels, but so be it. If I must go to hell for my deeds, I already sentenced my soul to that place a long time ago."

There was a slight scoff from Rosette's side of the confessional. "There are men who have killed for less noble causes than that, and supposedly in the name of God," she said, "and most of 'em were probably supposed to get box office seats up there." She pointed toward the ceiling, although she knew the confessor couldn't see it.

There was a slight, thoughtful sort of pause. Innocent person...student, from the island, she could assume...drug cartels...gunmen...rather heroic-sounding rescues... She drew in a deep breath. "These sins may be forgiven," she said, always feeling weird when it got to this part because, really, who was she to determine such a thing? "...if you complete one specific penance..."

"I accept my penance, whatever it is," El said.

Good. Rosette nodded, and tried not to grin slightly at the nice swell of superiority this gave her.

She pronounced the terms of the penance simply, "Let me help."

"...I'm sorry, what did you say?"

Rosette gave a little sigh, leaning back in her seat with her arms tucked behind her head. "I said, you have to let me help. What? You think you can come in here, tell me that innocent people are in trouble, and then forgive you for leaving me behind? Not gonna happen."

El sighed. "This was supposed to be just me. I never wanted to threaten anyone else with the violence in my past."

"Well, y'know," Rosette now leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees, "a lot can be said for that, for wanting to do something on your own because you don't want anyone else getting all messed up in your past. I speak from experience here, but someone once told me, not too long ago, that God..." if he existed, but she wasn't going to audibly add that, "...doesn't care what you think. We may think we're strong enough to handle things like this by ourselves, but, chances are, we can't. So he gives us things along the way to help us, even if we think we don't want it. And, sometimes, those things come in the form of other people, whether you like it or not."

El was slient for a long while as he throught about this. Mostly he was thinking about Campo and Queno.

But he was also thinking about Fidieo and Lorenzo.

"Alright. If you insist, get everything ready and meet me at the end of the Causeway in forty-five minutes. Prepare for blood and gunpowder."

A little shiver of excitement ran through Rosette. It's been far, far too long; her trigger finger was twitching with eagerness. She nodded. "Right. And I'll make sure we're all cleared with the big guy."

Do what you need to do. After all, if you break anything, Rosette will just think she did it, and forgot about it.

Because. Yeah. It would just be inappropriate to have a nun leaving her threads dangling.

Because no one wants to see a nun with dangling threads.
