The Fourth Sin, Wednesday Evening

Dallas sat behind the front desk, bored and filing her nails. The hole in the ceiling had been repaired, but the boxer briefs were still lying on the floor. She hoped someone claimed them soon. They were kind of unsightly.

Every now and then, one of the other girls would dash down the stairs on an errand for Miho, who had taken to her bed with what was shaping up to be a nasty flu. Dallas figured that was what she got for sitting on the roof in the middle of winter.

Parker stopped by after her visit to the gun range, when she was damn certain that Jarod wouldn't be there. She was immensely relieved that Becky wasn't around, and Miho appeared to still be sick. "Dallas? I have presents for people. Could you make sure they get them?"

"Huh? Yeah, sure, whatever," Dallas said without looking up from the green polish she was applying to her nails. She waved the hand holding the brush vaguely toward a corner and said, "We've been meaning to get the tree up over there. Maybe if you put presents there it'll inspire people or something."

The letter might be the part she was feeling nervous about. To cover that, she handed over a red-and-gold orchid, which was singing "Feliz Navidad." "Here's a start on your festive decorations, then."

Dallas got distracted by the singing orchid for a moment, but then she said, "Wait. Didn't you make him move out and then dump him? And now you're giving him Christmas presents? Pick a side, girlie! Ooh, chocolates."

"I did not make him do anything!" Parker scowled and folded her arms. "You make it sound like I withheld sex or threatened him and I never did either, and he dumped me! He's the one that left! And why the hell am I even--- gah!" She glared at Dallas. "Just, make sure he gets that, okay?" She gritted her teeth, and tacked on, "Please."

Dallas selected a truffle from the box and studied it as she said, "Semantics, God, there's no need to get so touchy about it. Don't worry, sweetcheeks. I'll make sure he gets his presents."

Parker gave her a deadly look for that, said, "Thank you," and spun on her heel. "Merry freakin' Christmas."

"What's her problem?" Dallas asked rhetorically after Parker stomped out. Then she leaned over and asked the orchid, "Hey, can you do "Carol of the Bells"? It's my favorite."
